| http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/3699045549.html I seriously can't believe I am seeing this car again- About 20 years ago, a guy and his 2 daughters rented part of a house on the street I grew up on in Malden. He was this older Puerto Rican guy (I think) with sunglasses and like a curly 70s Rob Reiner looking hairdo who sounded like Cheech Marin sort of...lol. This was his car. I walked right by the thing on the way home from school for several years. The guy friggin' drove it ALL YEAR. Before that, he had a late 70s Impala that had Iroc wheels on it...I remember seeing this car parked diagonally across from my house with road salt down both sides of it. It had been repainted so who knows the Bondo situation, but it seemed real nice and solid/clean at the time. It was show worthy. After a while one quarter was spraypainted with black primer and some rust bubbles were starting. It had these strange orange/yellow/blue stripes going down the sides of it, just like on the hood. I think he passed away in the early 2000s, maybe even before that. It still has that 1990s paper inspection sticker falling out of the adhesive rectangle, I think it had that sticker expired on it the last time I saw the thing. Crazy seeing it like this, but I never thought I'd see the car ever again period! Honestly, it's making me feel old...I vividly remember this car being shiny/glossy, and in excellent condition. Time flies. | |

You can usually tell them by having the alloys and the bigger tires as well, it's got skinny ones with those wire hubcaps on it!

You might be onto something. I did like the kace wheels and 235 white walls I bought before its spiral into certain death and avandonment lol.

Wire caps were offered 94-95 (not sure about '96). Plus, it has a picture of an LT1/L99. TBI motors don't look even close. JM2C.

| Well no shit people. No green hoses = not a 9c1 with LT1 No fan/metal pipe = not a B4U with LT1 Small alt = not an LT1 unless, like I said, someone messed with it. Unless I'm missing something here, it's not an LT1 wagon or an Impala SS.... It is MY understanding, the EVERY LT1 9C1 was shipped with green hoses. Black hoses could have been swapped in at some point. But not from the factory. "Messed" with. I didn't say that wire hubcaps made it a concrete TBI car...WTF??? Just saying, I generally do not see LT1 cars with wire caps as Matt stated. No shit its an LT1 based motor in there Justin. Who woulda thunk it? The person coulda swapped one in, but this, as it sits, does not show an LT1. Relax people. Not everyone is as stupid as Brad... | |

| My DGGM 96 had wire caps. But who know if they were stock.
Brian is right, using deductive logic we COULD narrow it down, but we can never be sure unless we look at the block. Even a W vin number doesn't mean shit. Someone could have swapped in an lt1 in there. And vise versa some pillow biter could have stuck an l99 into a P vin'd car.
Unless it's stamped 327 on the side and 5.7 behind the intake it's an L99
L99 is stamped 588 on the side and 4300 Behind the intake.

| Believe it or not, I DID read a kid swapped an f'd up LT1 for a good running L99. I think was rebuilding the LT1 while trying to drive the car and benefit from the L99 gas mileage. Not sure if he put wire caps on it so people would know it didn't have an LT1 tho | |

| I know the LS package had the option of being LT1 (which this car IS) and if it was it wouldn't be a b4u, therefore wouldnt have a mech fan or steel radiator pipe. I would think all Caprices came with monster truck 235's 91-96, No? | |

They came with 215/75s on them, I know mine had that factory. I'm not sure about 225s. The LTZ had 235s on the lace alloys, and I think that tire size came on anything with the beefed up suspension RPO, F41? I think you could get that without it being an LTZ but not sure...

| Lol. This is good discussion. On the question of suspension, my 9C1 has an RPO code for "special handling pkg". What does that mean if it already came with heavy duty 9C1 springs? Does it just mean it had a rear sway bar? Did any other B/D come with a rear sway bar besides the 9C1 and SS? I know the guys over at the caprice forum are HEAVY into the RPO codes, pkgs, and combos. Maybe they know. FWIW, my B had factory installed PO3 wheel covers according to compnine. I got it after the auction with N97/N92 instead. Did N97's have compatibility, option wise, with P03 covers? Or did PO3s come with plain steal wheels only like the N97/N92 we see a lot? My N97s have gouge marks where you can see covers were attached for some time. | |

You could only get the LT1 with the B4U package. All civilian LT1 Caprices came with mech fan. All 9C1, 94-96 got the N97. Wheel covers or center caps. My Caprice has a rear sway bar. It has an RPO for firm ride suspension. It was really optioned like a 9C1, L99 w/3.23 posi, firm ride suspension, extra capacity cooling system ect... Some of those RPOs are duplicates, with fancy wording and dont mean anything. Civi All sedans 91-96 came standard with 215/75's. Most people over time changed the size to a bigger tire or ordered with a bigger tire..> 225/70 and 235/70 optional on the LS and Classic (94-96) all wagons (94-96) had 225/75's. 9c1 235/70VR15 came on early (91-92) TBI 9c1 w/5.7L, 225/70 on the 5.0L. I know later year (93-96) 9c1 all had 225/70's. 235/70r15 could be ordered with 5.7L on 94-95 but they added a 130mph limiter. 225/70 only for 96. **Not everything here is 100% could be but im not positive, this is just based on my 8 year knowledge of researching and owning B bodies.

| I called the guy today, he told me the pic onthe ad was a downloaded pic from the Internet. I asked for a VIN. He called back and said it was a W but his mechanic said it was an lt1 swapped in "cuz the distributor is up front". I went through the whole thing explaining differences. I asked when the engine was swapped he told me between 94 and 2000 when I bought it. I then asked what mileage it had when he bought it and he told me 67k. So an lt1 was swapped into a low mile car? Plausible but I doubt it. I asked for the cast numbers. We'll see. If it IS an lt1 it could be a low mile one. if it got swapped within 6 years of the cars life it could possibly have been from a lower mile lt1 car, Might be a good buy for someone on here with a high mile lt1 caddy or caprice. | |

| I'm only interested in it for the frame for my 55. But a 94 lt1 would work well for me also (no obd2), even though I really wanna go big block. If I do end up with it, there will be another "flight of the vultures" meet! | |
