| So I've decided to pick-up my dragging feet and get the SS back on the road! Parts needed are water pump, opti and four tires. Price really isn't a factor, I'd buy the MSD opti if I knew it was going to work the first time. That has been my major reserve, that I would get this torn down and put back together and not having it work correctly. Anyone have a good experience lately with any brand opti? I'd even contemplate the Direct Injection conversion kit but I think you need a proper running opti for that as well. Any input would be great, thanks guys! | |

| In my unprofesh and green opinion, I've always heard/read that the Delco/Delphi optis were the best bet overall. Some people love MSD stuff, and some people hate it (I personally think their ignition wires are crap). I think some people like to run the stock new Opti with an MSD or other aftermarket cap though?
I'm sure others will chime in as well, I know Billy is well versed in the realm of Optis.
Glad to hear you're getting the car going again, didn't even realize it was down for the count!

| Delco/Delphi all the way. I read too much about the MSD opti's crapping out, along with all those cheap ebay ones and remans. As long as you find an opti with a good sensor, a new cap and rotor kit will extend it's life greatly. Contamination from oil/coolant is what kills the sensors on these things. The OEM uses a Mitsubishi sensor, all others use a cheap no name. As far as cap and rotors go, I have never used the MSD one (but hear it's decent). I have used the cheap parts store ones on OEM optis without problems. | |

| I've read good things about the Chandler Motorsports Opti, and it's a good deal less than the OEM deal.

Also, many folks including me are happy with their HEI and Vortec distributors, which are apparently built in the same factory as their Opti.

| Read what Dave says above 95brmw thats pretty much the deal
Good Mitsubishi sensor...clean all the parts.....good rotor & cap (MSD is my new choice after I tried to blame them for nothing)
Loctite on the rotor screws, rtv or equal on the seals....good vent harness..new orings...new seal....your good to go

| Can the new vent harnesses still be found? I remember my brother got a new GM one from RMS Auto Parts for his...RMS...when he had to have the Opti replaced. | |

| Dont know about the vent harness....I assume theyre out there
I can rebuild the optis (just like many other guys on here)...but YOU'd need to know you had a good running opti before the usual oil / moisture / rotor/ cap fail
Let me know if I can help | |

| I guess it would be wise to get in there and see how much damage was done. The last time I messed with it I was able to get it running and the water pump was def leaking on on the left hand side of plug wires. I stored it for the winters and I came upon the issue when starting it randomly, that was 2 winters ago. | |
