PostSubject: Rear Window Off The Rails: Gotta Fix Tonight   Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:44 pm

On my way home from Sturbridge tonight after buying some wheels from Brian and meeting Indigo, I attempted to roll up my DS rear window once I hit I-90. It didn't close, and when I glanced back I saw that it was all out of whack. The front corner of the window is much higher than the rear; the glass is all cockeyed.

I need to pull it into my garage tonight and fix it before the morning. Any tips I should know about getting the door panel off without damaging anything? Any typical issues inside that I should focus on finding/fixing so the window is operating properly?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you, sir. Obviously I should have searched, but I wrote the post in a spare moment between the end of dinner and my child's bedtime. I'm out to the garage now to see if I can at least get the window up so I can drive the car on the highway tomorrow without my elderly mom having to deal with cabin noise and wind.

You can always search that other forum for "window roller". Just don't leave anything there that you don't mind becoming their "property".

You'll need some new xmas holiday trees door panel clip thingys. A tool helps pop the clips. I don't know what the tool is called but I'm sure Harbor Freight has one. Smile

You should be able to put the pin in the track to hold the window up for now. Just don't forget before you operate the window and don't ask me how I know. Smile

After delicately trying to remove the door panel without breaking any of the old plastic parts and still failing in that quest, I gave up once all clips and screws were out but the panel would not lift up off the "ledge" at the base of the window. I got the window back in the closed position, and will just leave it alone for now. Once someone tells me the secret to getting these panels off, I'll source the new roller hardware and do this job right.

These panels are tough.

So you got all the screws and the panel could pivot out at the bottom?
Alot of people miss the bottom left screw (in a RMW it might even live IN the carpet)
On an impala it lives inside the pocket on the top left corner of said pocket.
I'm not 100% sure because the only time I removed a RMW panel I DIDNT find that 1 & broke it. That makes me think its hidden by the carpet.
The screw goes thru a standoff moulded into the plastic of the lower panel.

You got the pull handle screws out too?

Anyway...there were no real tricks if all the screws & christmas trees are out
That top lip does grab fairly well.
I put the window down....push in & up while gripping the panel as close to the top as possible.

It's more of a show & tell....hope this helps
If you get it off the guides are just plastic rectangles with a ball & socket coupling with the horizontal window track
Occaisionally the orig are good & you can pop them back on but after seeing how the door panel fights most just replace them with the round upgrade.

Give yourself time to do that...otherwise youll curse & bleed

Like Steve said. Push the panel near the top toward the door, and up. Dropping the window is only going to help on the front as the window does not go all the way down in back. Autozone carries the Dorman replacement clips, and window rollers
