| Yes. It has finally happened. You can all rest easy. The rebuild of the Marshmallow has begun! I'll post my build pics and updates here. Wife has officially been kicked out of the garage, and both bays are mine! What am I doing? Impala's motor. Heads/cam LT1 Impala 3.42 disc rear. Built to the hilt with a TruTrac and Moser axles, etc Addco Panther rear bar Complete front end rebuild C5 Vette front brakes 2600-2800 stall converter New seats. I have a pair of Legacy GT seats, but not sure on em. Dynomat entire interior Bodywork and complete paint job Much more... So to start, here's the Impala's old 400HP heads/cam engine, where it's been sitting for a while. And now I finally have my engine stand and hoist back, so tonight I got things rolling. On the stand. Ready to remove the pan and put a normal oil pump in. And I had to jump her, but now she's in! And look, with the wife's car outside, I now have room to work! On both sides! And in the rear. Speaking of rears.... Oh yeah! And here's one of the goodies going in: So yeah. It's begun. Hopefully I can get it all done this spring! | |

Oh shut up! lol I know, hopefully getting rid of the air suspension will take care of that. And I need to cut like 1/3" coil off the fronts. It needs to come down a 1/2" up front. I was kidding about the help, but maybe I will have a mod day again soon? lol

| So? Besides a bump to get your progress report, I wanted to ask how much extension the hoist needs to R&R the motor/tranny? I remember Tims problem from way back & dont want to pull the nose. Thanks | |

| I actually went to a metal yard and had a longer boom made for me. It slides inside the old boom. I can measure it tomorrow, if ya want. | |

| That'd be great. My friend said he has never had a problem pulling a motor, but you know how that goes..... Do you pull motor & tranny together? I intend to unless you know better.
Guess the other ? is....you added on because you HAD to?

| Thanks Bill, thats what I was wondering, how I was going to clear everything. How about the accessory bracket. I havent looked to see about the AC, pwr steering pump but it all looks awkward either way. | |

| I always drop the tranny, too. I tried once with the T56 attached and couldn't make it happen.
I take the AC compressor off and lay it on the framerail. Everything else clears easy.

| It's a 2" square tube, 7' long. I needed it to clear the bumper on the fleetwood. And it just barely clears the Impala's, too. Not sure how it would work with the stock reach on B body, but I'm assuming it's better to have the longer reach. | |

| I,ve put the odd motor in here and there on these b-bodys,.i put the 383 in with the T56 on the back real easy with the crossmember out,. swapping motors with an auto i always leave the trans in ,.floor jack under the trans to lift it to meet the motor coming in ,. pulling auto and motor can be done,.pull the trans cross member and easier with a strap that can be wrapped around the balancer and over the boom for pulling up the nose of the motor,.helps to have someone sit on the cowl to add down pressure to the tailstock,.the auto trans always seems to have fluid left in it, so i like to put an old yoke in the end of it,.

| Ya..I expected to pull the crossmember to have a little more pivot room, but really didnt want to have to ride it or man handle it out. Thought about one of those balancer things. Probably wont use it enough to justify. I'm working with an Auto so from the sounds of things you've all found it easier to seperate & pull. I'll work that method. Thats fine for right now cuz I'm waiting for a tranny anyway. Thanks for the input Nick. | |

IF you add an extension, becareful on how much weight you try and lift with it extended so far,. i had problems pulling the 6.5 diesel complete motor out of the dually,.and it needed a counter weight (my boy) on the opposite end,.extend the legs to match if you are going to install a complete motor trans,.i had no trouble with the 6 litre tho and it was a complete motor with accessories,. | Looks pretty damn good. I always wanted to make up a set cuz they never fit exactly right. Guess I'll forget about that if you say never again. Not sure the alternators gonna like how you've infringed on the valve cover but I'm sure you checked (or will work it out)

It would has crimped a 10.5mm wire perfect... And the alternator fits fine. I left enough slack to route the wires under it. It just needs a coolant temp sensor, radiator in, exhaust pipes/test pipes hooked up. The all fluids installed and battery hooked up and time to hit the key! Maybe tomorrow!

| I bought a set of those otvc wires last year but in yellow. Are they from thunder racing (or whatever it's called) they sent a tool with the kit. Maybe I should just use the regular old vice crimp then when I do mine if it's a crappy tool, waiting for winter to pull/paint the block first, | |

| I bought a set of ratcheting wire crimpers like these from my Matco dealer:
http://terminalscheap.com/images/LY1322_ratcheting_crimper_non_insulated.jpg
They have changeable crimp heads for different applications, and I have had pretty good luck with the spark plug ones. ______________________________________________________________________
I somehow missed this post, but the car is looking great. I am usually not a fan of over the valve-cover anything....but it actually looks really good in that bay. The whole car flows really well.
Are those torque thrust wheels? I love the color combo.
