| I somehow feel as though I've asked this before, but do you guys have anyone you recommend? My guy's price has gone up a bit and others that have come recommended are ridiculously varied in price, that I can't believe it. Who's being honest and who's going to hit me with hidden charges at the end?
I'm looking to build a 24x31 or 25x30 garage. I need the site work, foundation, and a weather tight building. I am planning a 12' covered carport to one side. Also, storage rafters above the 12' ceilings so I can stand upright and have storage in the middle third of the attic area.
I plan to do the electric, insulation, and sheetrock myself as time and money allows.
So do you know someone you can recommend? I've been told to find Amish builders in the area by multiple people, but wouldn't know where to even look for that...
Thanks! | |

| George Abetti of Geobarns. He won't be the cheapest, but his buildings are beautiful and strong and you can trust him without reservation. His buildings are part of his spirituality. Working with him and his crew was one of the best experiences of my life.
A couple of his guys started their own company, too; being smaller they might be less costly: Small Axe Builders is their company name, Justin and Andrew are their names. These are the two guys with whom I worked side-by-side for each of the seventeen days it took to build my barn. They are some of the best people I have ever met and gotten to know in my life.
I don't know you very well but there are always jokes on here about your being cheap. If that is the case, a simple pole barn is likely to be the cheapest, but their cost effectiveness tends to be most noticeable on larger structures.

| That's a good question, crovo. I plan to build a 24x30 at some point. But, the site work and foundation is the big thing. It'd be about $5,500 for the foundation to be poured. If you were to take the time and do it yourself, another $3,500-$5,000 in building material. You can get blue prints online. I watched a video on YouTube of a guy here in N.E. who built all the woodwork, installed garage doors, windows, roof, electrical, etc himself. No job skills, or certifications. Just some $, patience, and tools. He did an excellent job too. We have a brochure from this company http://www.shedsunlimited.net/TwoCarGarage.html . Seems reasonable. But, you'll still need site work and concrete. Plus shipping. Roughly between $10,000 and $18,000 for a pre built job. Let us know if come up with something before we do | |

| I'll tell you this, don't go the cheap way, you get what you pay for. I went cheap on my addition on the house, and have spent $1000s on repairs is the last 5 years, and it's only 11 years old.
I went all out on my garage, and I'll be paying for it forever it seems, but it was worth it.
Get someone good and pay a little more. The good and more guys will do it right, the cheap and crappy guys will screw you in the end. I can say that first hand.
