I autocross occasionally. It really is a blast! So long as you
don't run with the SCCA.
They manage to take ALL the fun out of playing with your car. Seriously, they are so strict as to what class your car is in (like I care) and the guys that run in that club are such stict-to-class-rules types of guys that you just want to smash them all in the face.
I remember one guy going crazy on me and going to the event staff to complain about me because the lugnuts on my Impala weren't stock and they affected the classing of my car. Really? Seriously? WTF???? All that fun AND you only get like 3 or 4 30 second runs for the day.
BUT... If you race with the clubs I now race with at Ft. Devins in Ayer, Ma, you would have an absolute blast! Just a bunch of car guys beating on their junk. And by junk, I mean anything from miatae, crx's and beemahs to Z06's and GT3's... Just a cool group, and the track set up is usually about a mile long, and typically you get 10-12 runs that last 70-100 seconds! I know it doesn't sound like much, but you will be beat up and tired by the end of the afternoon session!
I run with the following clubs: Track Club USA, Bay State Corvette, and NE-SVT Club. They are all the same guys at each event, just different guys within the group organize the events, no car restrictions. You can sign up at www.motorsportreg.com. You'll be glad you did.
Come on by, you'll have fun!
I'm probably gonna toss the marshmallow around a bit this summer.
