I'm all game for that! Whether I'm in the SS or the Marshmallow, I'd be down! So how many would we have that'd actually race? It's free to watch.
I've been to the SCCNH events in Loudon and the "Insert Club Name Here" events at Ft. Devins in Ayer, Ma. BY FAR, the events at Devins are more fun. The Viper Club, SHO Club, BMW club, Miata club, SVT/Cobra club all put on a great event. And the course is usually between 1 & 2 miles long. It's a blast. The Loudon course is usually short and technical, and while fun, it's not as "Balls Out" as Devins tends to be. I've also been kicked out of the track at Loudon twice for being too loud. Go figure. I've never run into timing equipment issues at Devins, but have EVERY time I've been with the SCCNH group in Loudon.
Anyways... Both places cost about 50 bucks to run and you need to pre-register with whatever club will be there. I can look into dates and availability if you guys want. The fact that we will be running at another club's event means that we will have to register ASAP when we pick a date or risk not being able to get in. We do not have the funds or the manpower to run one of these places by ourselves.
That said, I am also looking into renting out the Concord Airport and setting up our own autocross course. It'd be much lower tech, but just as fun. Cost would be similar, depending on turnout, and could go either way (up or down) depending on the amount of guys there. We would most likely get the most run time in this way. As of this writing, there are no open dates this summer. I am on the waiting list.
So... What do you guys think? This is a TOTAL FRIKKEN BLAST if you have never done it!

I'd give it a try if my suspension is installed before then. Currently my car doesn't like to turn very much

That's where driver's skill (or copious amount of tire smoke) come into play!
Soooo... How about we start with one of the SCCNH events in Loudon, NH? That seems to be a fairly centralized place to try out first. And I think we'd have a better shot at getting more of our guys registered there. So hit their SCCNH Autocross website for the specifics.
Possible dates: Jul 19 NHMS Aug 8 NHMS – School 2 Aug 9 NHMS Sep 6 NHMS Sep 27 NHMS
It's 50 bucks for non members. And I must make this clear. When we settle on a date, you must REGISTER IMMEDIATELY!!!! As these dates fill up FAST! This is truly a case of "you snooze, you lose" and I don't want that to happen to anyone who wants to play. So... Who's in?
I vote for July 18th or August 9th. Rookies can also go to the Autocross school on Aug 8th, if they want to.

For me it's not about beating someone. If that was the case I sure wouldn't take a b-body, they are in the same class as some Camaros and Vettes. Just try to get a little bit better each time out and/or have fun. There is at least one man in his 60s that is usually there every race.

So did the enthusiasm for this die?
I'm going to register for July 19th. So I'll be there, hopefully with the Impala. And Frank will be there with the GTO.
From the SCCNH Website:
Quote :
Events are open for pre-registration 30 days prior to the event and close when within 3 days. There is a pre-reg maximum of 40. After that you must wait and register at the event which will be first-come, first-serve. The current limit on total entries stands at 60, though this may increase as time goes on this year.
So there is a SMALL window of opportunity for registration here. DON'T MISS IT!!!!!
See ya'll there!!!!

Sounds like you should pre register to guarantee a spot. If you wait, you might not be able to get a spot.
I am in. Hopefully things will be back to normal for us by then.

You'll have to wait til the 19th of June to register, yes.
Members may have better/more access to events. I can't say though, as I'm not an SCCNH member. I don't go to enough of their events to make it worthwhile.

That was me "drifting that whole big back sweeper!" So much fun!
I had a blast in the Marshmallow. It did a LOT better than I thought it would. I beat a couple Miatas, BMW's, a Porsche and even a Skyline (yeah, a true, legit, imported, Skyline!). I was only about 4.5 seconds behind Frank in his modded GTO!
And I only boiled over the power steering, warped the rotors and now have squeaky brakes!
Bobby looked like he was having fun too. Especially once he found the whole course!!!!

Yeah, that thing was INSANE!!! NASCAR front and back halved. Built 406... I can't believe how high he was pulling the INSIDE FRONT wheel off the ground coming OUT of the corners! It had to be a foot off the ground in some spots, and he carried it for a long distance, too! (Usually the NEXT turn!)

The guy with the blazer's name Is Butch, he a really nice guy even though you'd never guess by looking at him, (he's a mountain man real deal). But his front inside tire will actually stop spinning before it comes back down that car is rediculous.

Wow, that looks like it was a blast. I almost want to do something like this with the 74, it actually handes better than you'd think by looking at it...but I should probably get another car that's "okay" to make a mistake with...if I dent this car I'll probably have to get body panels from Arizona.

I don't think you'd have any problems with dents the cars are spaced so theres no possiblilty of trading paint, and everybody is curteous enough to park far enough away from each other so no door dings, but then again a 74 is an awfully nice ride to being throwing around cones

Haha, yeah, I figured I'd be fine there but with my luck the rear end would fishtail into cones and dent the quarter or something. It does handle pretty nice with very little body roll though...hmmm

Trust me - I've fishtailed over more cones than I can count.
No dents.... Just leaves a little orange streak on the paint sometimes.
