| So.... anyone experience this ? the last 3 time i drive the car, it's a DD i start it and put foot on brake and push the button on shifter and it don't wanna come out of PARK. it happens on level ground and slight incline. i was reading and some said it may be the switch on the brake pedal is ready to give up the Ghost... What you guys think? -ALF out... | |

| Can you hear the switch operating? My cars make a rather noticable solenoid noise when the pedal is depressed Never looked to see how it operates mechanically but that could be it. Go ahead, jamb your head in between the brake pedals...your not claustrophobic are you? Good luck, let us know | |

| If you can't hear it pressing the brake, try lifting the brake pedal up with your foot and listen. Both of my 95s have broken park interlocks and the solenoid is always disengaged. | |

| looks like i mis-spoke
i think the interlock is working fine when i hit the brake and then try to hit the button it will NOT go in
So i am starting to think i have a mechanical problem. also i think the 20 degree weather is contributing to this. i have not driven the car in winter in many years and maybe age is showing ???
after driving an hour home, i put it in PARK and tried to get it out, it was still tuff but came out on the second try, so i think temp is playing a part.
i think i will read up in the FSM tomorrow night if i have time....

| Sounds like the mechanical mechanism in the handle itself Just a guess. I'll try to find the 96 shifter I have somewhere I see if I can see the release (or interlock) point. If you beat me to it, please fill us in on how the interlock really works when you figure it out (by "us" mean the lazy or dumb ones like myself that never had to go look for themselves ) | |

| Well i got outa work early yesterday and stopped by the mech and had him take a look. he popped the pin and pulled the shifter handle off the shaft. sprayed the lubricant down the shaft and up the handle. put it all back together and i tried it. it works WAY smoother must be a combo of things going on, temp, miles, age..... if it gets bad again i will have them pop the console cover and lube more of the mechanism. I'm good. -ALF out.... | |
