So I have been undercoating my 85 Chevy K10 lately and I had a bit of a lazy day yesterday so I decided to clean up the upper radiator support area under the hood. It had a lot of surface rust. So I first took some Marine Clean, a degreaser from POR15 to it. Then I quickly realized it was running down the front of the truck on the painted lower valance, just behind my bumper. My paint is in pretty good shape overall, still very shiny. But this Marine clean turned it very dull very quickly and the paint started to "pill" a bit. I tried to wash it up but it just removed the paint in sections down to the primer. None too happy :'(
It really is a small area, just that small valance" behind my chrome front bumper, so I might spring and have it repainted. Funny thing is, Marine Clean on the bottle says you can use it on painted surfaces. I am here to tell you DON'T. In fact it might work really good as a paint remover.
The valance looks like it unbolts separately and pretty easily so I think I might take it off, sand it and prime it and take it to the body shop if I get a decent estimate to have painted.
