So I have been thinking about what I want to build next, now that the boat is done. Some ideas were lt1/lsx s10, and so fourth. But I like the idea of a Catera with a LT1 or LQ4. It is basicly a 4 door version of the 04-06 GTO. In Holden form it has had both the LT1, and the LS1. What do you guy think? Any major problems that a v8/6speed won't address other than the rear end?

For what it'd cost to build it, buy a used GTO.

There's a lot of fun in that... And a lot less bleeding and swearing.
But... I'm one of the few who love those Goats.

I kind of thought the Catera got a bad rap because of the whole marketing theme that made not one iota of sense. I haven't seen them on the road much at all and have seen them in junkyards, but I've heard they had a problem with the timing belt causing the engines to grenade in them...and since the engine was made in Europe (England I think), people usually just junked them due to the cost? I bet you could get one with a blown motor for next to nothing...
I'm wondering what parts in the underpinnings are the same as the GTO...maybe all the brakes and stuff could be swapped over too?

The Catera got a bad rap because it's a total piece of crap! JMHO
It's a crappy OPEL cadet, very little in common with the usual Holden's.
I'm a total GM guy, BUT EFF THAT CAR!
Please pick anything else............

So tell me how you really feel.
I think the GTO, and Catera share all underpinnings. At least location and design. I am sure diffy, brakes, bars, springs, and struts are specific to GTO, but will bolt into a Catera. The engine going south is one of the reasons I was thinking of one. I figure I can pick one up for next to nothing. Get a v8 harness, motor mounts, radiator and go to town.

Actually, a Vega with a turbo Ecotech/6speed from a Pontiac Solstice would be cool too. Or I can just find a rust free 9C1 to dump an LQ4/6speed into.

I probably will. Just want to find a rust free 9c1, and dump a LQ4/6 speed into it.

But it's not a 9c1 Bill!
You could always just get it, drop the motor in, then "9c1" like Jim. Or "Crovo" it.
That car really has Billy written all over it in magic marker.

So I made my decision. I am going to build a S-10 or S-15 with a 6.0/4L80E or a 6 speed. It has been done before. I found this page S10/V8 CONVERSION

I too fully support this decision, especially if you are able to get a running truck you can pimp around in while you collect parts.
Good call

good choice on the S10. Cadillac only produced the catera (the caddy that zigs) from 1997-2001 Pontiac produced the GTO 2004-2006. Even though they share the same "V" platform I don't think they share much of anything. Parts wize catera's sucked to get replacement stuff.
