PostSubject: Question for all of the parts hoarders...   Sun Jan 13, 2013 12:46 am

Off the top of your heads does anyone know the specs for the bolts which mount the sway bar brackets to the front of the frame? I have to buy some hardware and I cannot find the ones that came out of this frame for the life of me.

Any help appreciated! TIA! Arrow

I think it is a 3/8-20 or 3/8-24 thread with a 10mm head. I do not think it is a 3/8-16 thread.

Are they the same as the 91-96? When I removed my sway bar in the caddy it was a Pain in the ass! I ended up cutting the bracket in half. I believe there is still one or two bolts still in the frame. If they are the same as yours let me know and I'll find out what it is.

I think I got my answer but a few cheapie test bolts will give me the final result. Thanks for the base to go off of. Arrow

Those are some king of self tapping bolts I think
I remember someone saying be careful or they'll strip out & your screwed
Might be a good time to consider what Scot had mentioned about stiffening up your front end woth cross bracing. You could weld the bar between the frame right there at the swaybar mounts & cut NEW standard bolt swaybar mounts into the stiffener.
If I were where you are...thats what I'd do

If the bolts are the same as the ones on the rear bar, they are thread cutting bolts, I had gotten some for the rear bar I was going to put in the '93, but I got timid after trying to get one in with a socket wrench. I was afraid it was just going to ream out the holes...I think you need an impact gun or an air tool to get them in if that's what they are anyway...

I looked today while grabbing my creepy to bring to the garage today and the 87 frame still has them in so I'll try to get one out and test it. I'm hoping it'll come out Laughing

There used to be a post on that other forum, maybe by b-body-builder, on what GM did on the assembly line when the holes were stripped. I also remember many warnings about how easy it is to strip them.
