| So I'm sure some of you saw last year I was struggling. I had no money and no place to live. I parted ways with my ex and gave her everything I had acquired over the years mostly because I had nowhere to take any of it. I was staying with a friend until he moved and I couldn't go with him. Then I was sleeping in the Olds Silhouette. I met a girl and decided that I'd better just get out of RI and go move closer to her where I might find a job. She said if I could find a job I could live with her and her brother. I did find a job. There was an ad on craigslist. Tire technician. I went and filled out an application like I have so many times before and was not expecting a response. The next day I got a call and had an interview. The GM (at the time) was impressed with how I presented myself and saw me having good value for he future of the company. I started the next day and moved in with my girlfriend. The company has four locations on Cape Cod. Hyannis, Orleans, Falmouth and Wareham. I started in Falmouth in the garage changing tires. Then I was quickly moved to the front end on the computer. I'm not sure what happened but the manager tried to fire me a few weeks later. I went and talked to the GM. He gave me another shot working in the garage in Orleans. Then, he quit. He left along with my chance at moving up in the company. I was stuck changing tires. So I decided to take it upon myself to go up front and start answering the phones and taking care of customers. One of the owners overheard me on the phone and complimented that he liked the way I dealt with the customers. FFW a few months and I was transferred to the main Hyannis location to work side by side with the founding owner on the new computer system. He was amazed at how much I knew about computers. I was sent to all the locations training everybody and was assigned a company truck to do so. In the middle of all that I got engaged in December last year, and married in June of this year. Some of you met my wife, Jessica, at the round up. Our baby girl will be here the end of next month! The owner started talking about selling the business. It was about 5 months in the making and today they signed the papers. Every employee was handed an envelope. Some got good news, others had lost their jobs. I got my letter welcoming me to the new company and an offer to run and manage the wareham location store. So in about a years time I worked my way up from tire changer to having my own store to manage. This store also happens to be the company's warehouse. After the struggle last year I am starting a nice family, I didn't have to sell my cars and my job just keeps getting better. | |

| Man, that is awesome! I honestly didn't know you were struggling to that extent, though. Congrats on turning it all around! | |

Same here, I had no idea, you hid it well. I love hearing stories like this, someone who worked their ass off and things paid off, there is not enough of that going on in this country right now, mostly because there are not enough people willing to work for what they want, only expecting it to be handed to them. I took out a large loan to buy the small business I had worked for for several years, that Was 2.5 years ago. I have been busting ass, growing and expanding, but have yet to pull a reasonable paycheck out of it. There are times when I am so frustrated I just want to throw my hands up in the air. A story like this really makes me feel like it could be just around the corner, thanks! Congrats man! Doug

| Now that is a good story! I always knew you had potential, sometimes it comes sooner, sometimes later.
Being away from the forum quite a few months, I wasn't aware of any of your struggles. After the Roundup I PM'd one of the members and told him the big change I saw with you. He said there was a 100% change, I'm sure he will pop in. I said to him, gone are the gold chains, the hat on sideways, baggy pants hanging down and the black clothes. The biggest thing I noticed was a new girlfriend. I could tell she was a really nice girl. Later I learned from you, she is your wife, that is great. It was good you realized, that unless you got out of your old environment, things weren't going to change.
Keep making good choices, and your story will keep growing.
Congratulations on your upcoming fatherhood.
Tom

| Congrats man, that is amazing and I appreciate you taking the time to share with us. The difference between you and at least half the country right now, is you don't expect anything to be handed to you. You took a shitty situation, and turned it around by working your ass off and presenting your ambition ALL the time...not just when someone's watching.
I just wish more people could take some pride in their work, no matter what the task is.
Best of luck with your store!

| Damn Tim, I had no idea. I just wondered where you had disappeared to. I am damn proud of ya! Take the bull by the horns and throw it to the ground! Good for you, man! What a turn around. As mentioned before up in this thread, you are one of the minority in this country who has the drive and desire and backbone and will to stand up for yourself, dig in, and make shit happen, not wait in line with your hand out. More good things are on there way to you, man. You're a stand up dude and deserve all the good that is now coming your way. You've earned it, enjoy it. | |

| Thanks alot everybody. I am certainly not your typical modern day american young man with his hand out. I don't ask my parents for ANYTHING. I've never applied for things like unemployment or food assistance. I know a few people who live off of BOTH. I'd rather do without and make myself go out and get what I need in life, knowing I earned it. I have a keen way of surviving in this world while not stepping on toes. I certainly earned this new job position.
Monday is my first day at the new location. It's going to be tough taking over the store. There was 1 manager there for a long time and everybody only talks to him. I've got to put my foot in the door. Like I said, this is also the warehouse. I have a lot of wholesale customer responsibility.
If anybody needs tires let me know. Also, maybe next year, we can do some meets in Wareham. The building has a big parking lot and 3 lifts.

| Great news on all fronts! Don't worry about being the new manager no one talks to yet; you'll be the old guy everyone goes to in a week or so. And congrats on the baby! Get sleep while you can... | |

| Great news Tim...you deserve it for stepping up like you have. Just remember....life's a roller coaster...with it's ups & downs. Just stay focused & true on the bad days & they'll pass. Many people make mistakes on the down days & screw up the future... PS: Dont take advise unless it makes sense to you... From the sound of things, you have good judgement. | |
