I really wish I had 8k kicking around! I am not big on buying cars that have a lot of someone else work....but MAN is this thing bad ass.

Bad ass chassis work, although I think the dude that commissioned it may have been on drugs as that car would be about a thousand pounds heavier than anything he would race in any class it would be legal for. I still love the car and it would be great for Hot Rod Drag Week with a twin turbo LS engine in it...or a whipple charged rat motor. Smile

You guys have seen Steve Morris's wagon, right? This is in the old paint job...

Did you look at the photos of the chromoly chassis in that car? A full 25.3 chassis isnt going to pick up an additional 1k lbs because of a difference in wheel base.....

That car would have no problem reaching the weight limit of small block power adder
in x275.

There is no reason that with a good bullet that car couldnt keep up with the best of them. There is a whole nother world beyond the mustangs and camaros that have flooded the field.

PostSubject: Re: 25.3 Impala SS Radial Chassis   25.3 Impala SS Radial Chassis EmptyFri Sep 28, 2012 7:14 pm

I am with you in the fact that the chassis is awesome. This weekend's radial revolution race has rules in x275 that allow a small block single turbo car to run 3100lbs and a small block nitrous car 2500lbs. I can see making the 3100lb cut off but I can't see this car with a small block and a single turbo running the in the high 4s or low 5s eighth mile that it would take to qualify at a race like Radial Revolution race in Georgia. New England Dragway's track record in X275 is 4.94/145 (Tim Meagher this year).

I think the thing is full on bad ass and this car with a big tire would be a monster in NMCA Pro Street or another less restrictive class. I just think that the B-Body has too much girth when set next to the Mustangs and Camaros that populate the class. Just my opinion, not trying to pick a fight.

Those cars are stupid fast no doubt about it. Bruder's went 4.82 this year....

I get what you are saying (and I am not trying to start a fight either...friendly debate)....but you have to consider the construction of a 25.x car.

Once these chassis are built to spec...there is not a whole lot of variation from piece to piece. In the sense that if it is a certified built chassis (which obviously it has to be to compete), all players in the game are required to have x amount of bars at x amounts of locations which retain x amount of angles and so on and so on. Granted, each chassis builder has bars they add specific to the car and there personal preference....but end of the day...there is a blueprint that every racer is required to follow.

Nabil Guffey runs a roadmaster/ impala hybrid at a weight of 3425....and this is not even a tube chassis car. I actually think he just has a roll bar in it.

Mike Smith is a BBC nitrous car at 3150 ...again not a tube chassis car.

Even Steve Morris's MASSIVE wagon is a streetable non kill version and tips at 3560.

The weight is there to take out, and if you were building something to be competitive in the turbo classes.... ESPECIALLY with the new rules, I don't see what could possibly hold this thing back from being competitive.

x275 pro mod 88 small block is 3250
x275 large frame 88 is 3350
x275 f1r is 3300
x275 small block nitrous is 2900 ......

No reason any one of those weights are unobtainable with a creative builder. If I was building that car, I would have it under spec and adding ballast where I wanted it to come up to class. Want to find out if it can be competitive? I am taking sponsors LOL

Just some fun bench racing my friend.
I wish I was independently wealthy because I would have the chassis ready to race for next season and put my money where my mouth is Wink

PostSubject: Re: 25.3 Impala SS Radial Chassis   25.3 Impala SS Radial Chassis EmptyFri Sep 28, 2012 8:17 pm

Good points all around. I guess the sheer girth of the thing scares me. The length of the wheelbase and frontal area as compared to the more popular body styles in the class makes me sweat. Smile - If I won the big bucks I would gladly deliver this mother to you and tell you to make it work. HA!

On the flip side, one of the ways I make my living is by announcing drag races across the country. I was announcing the Lingenfelter Performance Nationals last weekend when Mark Carlyle went 7.09/212mph in his 2007 Z06 Corvette LSX turbo car. That was on 315s but still! There were several heavy hitter radial cars there and Curt Johnson had the surface prepped like velcro.

Anyway, I hope someone scoops this thing up and makes some big noise with it. I remain a skeptic, but your impassioned arguments have brought me closer to seeing the light. Smile

I am probably stuck in a rut from seeing too much of this stuff and getting brainwashed what lots of guys are running. Nick Scavo and other dudes proved long ago that big cars can work. Also Frank Savage's multi-time NMCA True Street winning Caprice is a classic. (Pretty sure Ol' Frank is serving time in the cooler, though).

I always loved that coupe, but i think you are correct about his current housing situation haha.

I plan on making some passes in the box in a few weeks. We will see what happens...but man is it frustrating when you look at some of the money these clowns throw around just to break lol.

Did you hear the same story I did about the tractor trailer with the false wall and a large quantity of....ummmm...powdered sugar in the front?

I am woefully ignorant of your combo. What are you running?

No lol! Read somewhere over a year ago he was incarcerated, but didn't know why.

Makes me wonder what happened to that coupe!

My car:

White like yours. Nothing crazy, but should be fun.

Sweet mother of awesome! Dude, that car is kick ass from front to back. Congrats on all the work and in many ways, "going where no man has gone before" with that combo. Your nitrous control setup looks really slick and the way that LS motor looks in there with the plates is purely bad ass. I bet when you scale that thing on four corner jobs (if you have not already) the bias will be really favorable for the drags.

Fantastic car and I look forward to watching your progress. My car is going the neanderthal man route with the current small block and then a rat motor transplant (although that will have EFI...it still won't hold a candle to yours!).

Best of luck at the strip. (I started working at LVD while in college 1998-2002 at UMass. That was when Glenn Grow ran the place).

haha, thanks man. I appreciate the kind words. I used to run the car with a regular sbc and it was a blast....I am just hoping the lsx lives up to its rep. Everything was kinda done with the long road in mind. Basically...eventually drop in a big boy bullet, and finish up the chassis to at least an 8.50 cert.

I didn't race too much when Glenn was running the place (christ...I was still in high school), but Wayne seems to be doing a pretty good job now. I am interested to see your progress with the "build at the track ordeal," should make for an entertaining weekend. I wan't to try and make it.... That should be pretty cool.

It is looking like Oct 27/28 will be the weekend for the "ordeal" and it will be a total "ordeal". I have all the parts currently aside from the cam, but it is on the way. The big question is going to be how far along the whole experiment gets before the 196,000 mile short block barfs the rods out. Smile

Gentlemen place your bets!

I am flying out to SEMA on Monday, so walking home is not an option. HA!
