Trim Moulding Paint

Those of you who are cursed with the wheel trim mouldings on the 94-96 'SS, know that replacing one of them is stupid money if you can find one in the whole country.

I want to know how they painted these mouldings. Looks like a plasticized paint that shrinks up and over time pulls back from the edges.

Would a paint with flex additive work like for a bumper cover? It's really got a different texture and thickness to it when you touch it.

Anyhow, I got one peeling and I'd love to correct it. Any ideas would be great, thanks-Pete

if u strip them and just base/clear them body color i think u will be fine

I was thinking that and maybe do the flex additive in the paint with a primer base to eliminate the stainless shine thru and many coats of paint. and enhance the correct texture.

Plasit dip is an interesting alternative if its possible to get it made/mixed in the correct color.

Spoke to a friend of mine at a shop today and going to try a few things.

Scuff real good with 600 grit, wipe with wax/grease remover, one coat of self etching primer, one coat of primer sealer, base coat, then clear coat. I have used clear chip guard down low, before clearing the entire molding.
