PostSubject: intermittent stall/no start   Fri Sep 16, 2011 8:35 am

So, Ive been bring this 96 SS back to life after it sat almost 4 years, and Ive got her running pretty good, but... every once in a while I'll be driving and step on the gas and it will chug then stall. Go to restart cranks and cranks..nothin. let it sit 5 mins and it starts back up. Doesnt seem to be overheating and no trouble codes. It has also done it once after sitting overnite, wouldnt start, just crank. Went out later and it started right up. Also what I think maybe a related problem, when driving sometimes when I step on accelerator the motor seems to cut out, but when I let off gas it comes back and seems to react better to light, slow depression of gas pedle instead of mashing it. Thanks for any and all help.

Sounds like it could be fuel pump problem, maybe changing the fuel filter might help where it's been sitting for 4 years.

That is always a good 1st step.
Along those lines...it really IS a good idea to have a fuel pressure gauge.
Even tho its kinda ghetto (& a little dangerous) taping the gauge to the windshield to see pressure dropout works.
Just borrow one if you dont think you'll use it much...&...be careful, reading a winshield gauge can be like texting on the road.

I shouldve mentioned, its got a new pump and sender unit, new fuel filter and I had the tank cleaned while it was down. I will try to get ahold of a fuel pressure gauge as it does seem like a fuel problem. When it does stall before it restarts, if I crank it and mash the pedal to the floor, it kind of chugs and almost catches then dies. If i wait 5-10 mins it starts right up. I hate intermitttent problems!

Does it start to act funny before it stalls?
Is it a cold / hot thing? Usually when that happens its

good advice,.next time it happens try full throttle while cranking,.it,ll clear it if it,s flooded,.
also check your coil and coil wire connections,.

As Nick said, check the three wires that plug into the coil. The wires can break inside the insulation and you can not see it visualy. Check the grounds by the coil on the front drivers side head, also the fuel pump ground out back.
