removing body bushings Empty
PostSubject: removing body bushings   removing body bushings EmptySat Aug 28, 2010 8:47 pm

I was just curious if anyone here has ever removed the body bushings and solid mounted the body to the chassis?

I was discussing this topic with my chassis guy, and he suggested this as a way of strengthening the overall vehicle.

It makes sense I guess.....by removing the soft rubber bushings and mounting the body directly to the frame, you have now used the strength and structure of the body to almost reinforce the frame and limit flex.

I guess it would also drop the car about 1-2" right?

Just a thought.

WHY ????
Overkill .You gotta have some give/flex even in a race car.
Glass is gonna crack.
how are things gonna line up fenders core support etc.????
My suggestion would be poly bushings.

why would the glass crack?

You can take a full size gm body off the frame, put it on jack stands and all the doors/ trunk still open and close fine.

Drag cars run solid motor mounts, solid tranny mounts, sepherical eyelids for shocks and control arms....

Even unibody cars that recieve full frames underneath (tube chassis or 2x3) are essentially doing the same thing.

(not blowing off your opinion, just legit asking why that would potentially happen, not saying your right or wrong)

Because these cars aren't designed to be rigid. They are designed to flex and move. If you take out all the flexability then things will start breaking. Just look at the people who used heavy sway bars on solid upper and lower rear control arms. Once the flex is gone you quickly see that these cars were designed by people who didn't totally understand geometry or tolerences.

I would worry about clearance issues with the body and the chassis mounted parts.
