| The A/C clutch is GONE in my Silhouette. The van has about 130 on it. I want to replace the compressor. Besides the compressor what else should I look at replacing, if anything? The whole system worked perfect until the clutch went. I don't want to just change the clutch and take a chance of the compressor blowing a week later so I want to do it now. Should the accumulator be changed? I hope not because my van has 2 of them and that will probably get costly. But, I NEED my personal daily driver back and I need my A/C. I am sick of sharing my Olds 88 with my girl. Hit me with some advice/suggestions.
BTW, I WILL NOT use any junk yard parts for my A/C fix that is out of the question.

| If you refuse to run used parts then expect to pay a small fortune to get it fixed. Air conditioning components are generally pretty pricy. Plus all you can buy now are reconditioned parts that were rebuilt in mexico by little kids | |

| I am not particularly worried about cost. I will pay for quality. Rock Auto is showing new GM compressors on the $300 range. | |

If you had no leaks and the AC worked good, I don't think you need to replace any other parts. If you bring it to a place to be recharged they can dye test it for leaks. Then if there is a problem replace what is needed.
Just last week I had to replace the condensor and accumulator with a recharge was just south of $500 on my Grand Marquis.

| Thanks Tom, sounds good. There is a place a few houses down from mine that specializes in A/C systems. I will have them charge it up for me after I swap the compressor. | |

| Was it their reman compressor? How long have you had it?
So from what I gather, I need:
- Compressor with clutch
- 2 driers
- orifice tube
Anything else? Seals or something? Should I pay someone to evacuate the system or just let it loose.......

| Too bad your not going with used parts since you could strip the Toronado of all it's a/c if you wanted. Course it has a leak in it somewhere | |

| The compressor itself I think is fine. The clutch is what went but I can't see myself having a new clutch installed on a compressor with 120k+ on it which is why I am replacing it. | |

| Not having any luck with ACkits. They charged me $900 for a $300 order and then only credited me back $300. I called them and they are basically saying they don't owe me the other $300. I called my bank, now my bank has to send them a dispute form and I have to wait and wait and wait for my $300. Good thing I had the money in my account. | |

| The money was returned and I received my items in a timely manner. I never did go leave them bad feedback and I'm glad I didn't. Everything is installed now and working excellent. My van is SUPER quiet now. Thanks for the recommendation Bobby. It saved me a bit of cash as I was about to order a GM unit from Rockauto for 300+. My whole order from ackits was around 300 TOTAL. I paid only 150 to have everything installed and the system charged. I just have 1 more problem to track down. While my old compressor was all messed up it blew the fuse for it and I cannot find it. The mechanic had to jump the relay to charge the system. Everything is working but that damn fuse that even the GM dealer I went to cant find. | |

| On most of the ones I've seen there's a fuse inside the car for the climate controls, and theres a curcuit breaker in the aux fuse panel under the hood. It's possible that the breaker is bad. Either that or the relay itself isn't switching like it should. | |

| The relay works perfect. The Idle even kicks up high but the compressor is not engaging. The fuse is no good and I can't locate it. I went to the GM dealer, had the parts counter guy AND a GM tech scratching their heads. "Our computer only goes back to '98". | |

| I'm free most days since I don't work. I do have to run Laura to and from work so any other time is open. I have time Monday and Wed-Fri. Just a matter of how late in the day that free time is. | |
