| Besides the LT1, what other engines gas and or diesel small or big block, v8 or v6 will bolt up to a 4l60e? A stand alone tcm and harness for the trans is availible, so I am not worried about control of the transmission. I am thinking of going big block or turbo buick v6, or even diesel. |

| 4l60 is a chevy only trans. Without using adaptors the only stuff that'll bolt up are gen 1 and 2 chevies. If you want to go old school with a big block or even a turbo 6 then you should switch to a 200-4r since they're the multi pattern housing. | |

a big block chevy has the same bellhousing bolt pattern as a small block chevy | |

LOL! I will get right on that. I am thinking gas guzzling big block. A nice 454 would be the cats ass. |

| But big block chevies suck. That's why I didn't say to keep the trans and bolt it to a big block Out of all the gm big blocks the chevies weight the most and make the least power, until you start throwing thousands into them. | |

| Compare the 454 to any of the other gm 455's or go all out and look into the Caddy big blocks. The 454 is overrated by a bit. Not a bad engine, but not as good as some of the others And my little 307 with all its problems can still outrun some of the new cars from a dead stop. I do it all the time Granted my L99 could too, but a few extra ft-lbs tends to make it easier | |

| Vortec 7.4 454 make plenty of low rpm grunt. And the olds gm 350 diesel was a slug that would never see 100k without major problems. |

| Holy high prices batman! I was looking for a 96-01 vortec 7.4, and those things are going from 1000-2000 used on carpart.com I looked at the buick turbo v6, and found the same thing. Big bucks, and forget the duramax or 6.5 TD. The 5.3 LS engines are more affordable, but the conversion cost kill it for me.
Maybe something similar to Doug, but it won't happen this year.

| I've been planning a big block swap for a few years and 2 different cars. It's going to end up being a couple grand no matter what way you decide to go. The headers themselves tend to be the killer on a carb motor. On them new fangled computerized thingamajigs it's a huge hassle to get everything working right since all the parts need to be the same vintage so that they can talk to each other. Cheapest/easiest is a carb setup. And there was someone selling a complete hot air turbo engine for $700 a couple months back. I was considering it until I researched how amazing the hot air motors are | |
