| Saw on the ISSF that you can put a 235/55/17 on an SS wheel without issues. I want to dress up the Caprice when the nice weather comes, I already have some wheels to put tires on, but I'm not sure I should bother with the 255s since my car rides high and to be honest, the 255s seem expensive.
Is 235/55 the only smaller size you can put on without it looking silly? I haven't found much else, I saw a pretty good deal on closeout BFG KDWs that were 245/45/17, but I think my wheelwells have too much space for something like that.

| I thought they were like 105's. I'm pretty sure they were originally mounted on an early 80's carolla and he just heated them and stretched them over the SS rims. There's no way they were actually made for a 17 inch rim | |

So, like, can I use some of those boat trailer tires? I have some come-alongs to wrap around them and help seat the bead....lol Here's a link to pics of a wagon with 235s: http://www.impalassforum.com/vBulletin/showthread.php?t=229898&page=2&highlight=tire+sizes

| Hahahaha I just don't want my car to look like one of those early 90s Nissan Hardbody trucks people used to run with the 6 inch tall but 8 feet wide wheels sticking out...I think even if I run 255s that the sidewall won't be tall enough for the Caprice, and there's no way in hell I'm dumping the money into this car to lower it or anything else..this is strictly an experiment of how little I can spend on this car, have it look half decent, and keep it maintained while driving it everywhere...until I can get an SS or 9c1 | |

LOL the 74 actually beats the crap out of the Caprice in handling with the Bilsteins and 255s on it, everyones surprised at how well it corners, especially with no rear sway bar in it! I might get the 255s simply because if I had to resell the wheels for whatever reason, they'd be more appealing with those on them.

| I would, but I don't want to do anything to this car other than keep it clean and leave it the way it is aside from a couple mods that don't cost anything and put nicer wheels on, it's just my DD. | |

| 235/55's will look silly. I had them on my Caddy when I first put the SS wheels on it. The tread is noticably narrower than the rim so the sidewalls slope in towards the tread. Ick. | |

Yup I ran a free set of 235's on the SS wheels on my old FW. Unless they where free I would'nt run em.

| I have a set of 275/40R17 on impala SS wheels. They are about 25.5 inches tall.
Are you looking for Taller and skinier than stock impala? Shorter?
Look at miata.net at their tire calculator.

Look at miata.net at their tire calculator. Well, I was initially just seeing if there was a cheaper tire than a 255/50/17 that still looked good and filled the wheelwell, but since my suspension is going to be stock, I think it would have looked really terrible on the car like that being higher off the ground and all. I think a 255 will be ok, but I'm still a little wary of it being too high. Seems according to that calculator that a 255/50 is only a small amount shorter than the stock 215s.
