question on tow package - looking for Fleetwood

Hey guys, long time!

I'm starting to look for a '94 or '95 Fleetwood to replace the wagon as my tow vehicle sometime soon. I can't remember, though- does the machanical fan mean it absolutely for sure has the tow package? There was no SPID code for the tow package, right? I remember the tow package has auto load level and mechanical fan (heavy duty cooling), 2nd trans cooler, posi, 2.93 gears, anything else?

Man I used to know this stuff like the back of my hand and I've been away from "the scene" so long I forgot most of it.

I'm not in a big hurry right now to get one, but if I find the perfect one right now I'd probably get it if I can talk Kim into it. I'd like to get one at least within the next couple years.

I'm kinda picky so it might take a while to find: tow package, mint or near mint condition (preferably never seen snow), low mileage, leather, and must be '94 or '95. Prefer black, white, or Marblehead. I plan to use it mostly just for towing the boats, store it in the winter, and keep it till I die.

So my main question is about any info on the tow package, and if it has a mech fan is it a sure thing? Thanks!

I think V4P may be the tow pack in the Fleetwood. Not 100% sure that it covers LT1 cars, though.

I just learned something. FWB RPO code is V4P.

Tow package fleetwood is a V4P RPO code. I'm not sure if it had mech fans though. I have NEVER seen ANY FWB with mechanical fan. It does have the 2.93's though. My black brougham may actually be a tow package. I'll have to look at the tag tomorrow. It's definitely got 2.93's but that could just be from being a brougham.

Thanks for the replies so far I'm 99% sure I saw a FW recently on ebay with a mech fan but now I'm second guessing that... As far as all the tow package goodies go, the mech fan is the one I care the least about, but was pretty sure that was a way to tell if it had the tow package.

So sounds like the surest way to tell is to look at the codes and see if it says V4P, huh?

They do have the mechanical fan and unlike the tow pack B-bodies, a lower gear ratio of 3.42. 2.93 was standard on Broughms. Also, the tow pack Fleetwood can tow up to 7k and do that in overdrive. Of course all of this applies to 94-96 only for sure. 93 probably had the mechanical fan, but also got a factory 3.73 with the tow pack. Needless to say, I'm kicking myself for not snagging the axle when I saw it in the yard. Their hard to come by.

Damn, I need to snag one of them tow pack rears. 2.93 isn't too bad but 3.42/3.73 are nice. My 3.42/LO5 9c1 was fun.

There is a FW on rt 11 in Nanticoke, PA. I've been eyeing it for the last 3 weeks! I'll check it out.

For the last couple weeks as I was looking I kept seeing this wicked cool looking flat black "rat rod" FW with red wheels and I thought to myself Man, that thing is freakin AWESOME looking! Bill that is one of the absolute coolest looking tri-9 fleetwoods I think I've ever seen. I wonder what Kim would say if I asked her if I could by two Fleetwoods in one day?.............

Not a factory top. Factory top is a very sleek vinyl, like mine.

VERY clean ride. I'm jealous of how nice those wheels are. Mine look like crap.

There is no d'elegance package with this body style. That was the previous. The V4S is the Brougham package.

Hmmm, if it's not a factory top I'd be tempted to take it off if I knew I could do it without inflicting damage or having to do any bodywork, but that probably is not possible.
If it was put on before the original owner took delivery, I'd leave it.
I like the plain hardtop (painted) by far the best of any other but I'd like to keep this original.
I'll have to do a little more research on that. My guess is it got the vinyl delete option and the cloth was put on before taking delivery.
It's interesting that the dealer I bought this from lists the options, but did not mention the tow package. I mentioned it on the phone and he was not aware that it had it.

Did the FW have the V92 5000# AND the V4P 7000# pkg or just the V4P?

Just the V4P. What is the VIN? You can get a complete breakdown of the RPO from comp nine. It probably was a bare top. But, you can't remove that top without bodywork. There's got to be a million holes rivets and glue all over the place under it.

Yes, I can haha... that's sad. They look like 235/70r15 and are probably a few years old. It's funny if you look at the LR 1/4 pic they only shined HALF the tire.

So from what I can find it looks like the only difference between the V92 and V4P is the gears and maybe an "HD" tranny? Some say yea and some say nay on the tranny.

It's funny, it's kinda hard to find info on these on the net outside this site. I don't think of a '95 as old, but I guess it kinda is...

Never heard of any HD transmission in any of these cars.

It's funny about the Michelin M+S tires- be glad you have them blackwall out right now... the first movie I ever did extra work with my car on, some dude showed up in a pretty nice '71 Coupe Deville. He had THOSE TIRES on it, with the white letters facing out! And they put the damned car in plain view in the movie! He told me he got them because the tire place said it was his size and you couldn't buy whitewalls anymore.

I have to say I kinda like that roof they put on it too, it blends in pretty nice since it's the same color. I like a smooth roof too but I wouldn't bother messing with that, I would try to keep it looking nice and leave it on there. The gold emblems would bother me more than that roof does but even those look good with the color. What is the significance of the gold emblems on one of these cars, is that an RPO or something? I noticed it has the "gold keys"...

So after doing a little more research, here are some of my observations and questions. Correct me if I'm wrong on anything:

It looks to me like there is no difference in the tranny. Looks like the only difference between the V92 and the V4P is the gears. Anyone know anything different?

I'm also curious, after running 3 or 4 non-V4P VINs from '94-'96 FWs on ebay, they all had the JA2 brakes, KC4 oil cooler, KD1 tranny cooler, and the KG9 140 amp alternator. Do all FWs have all that? Some had the FE2 suspension w/o having the tow package.

I believe (and hope) all FWs have the auto load leveler also? How come the SPID label doesn't say G67 (auto level control) on it? Is that because they all have it? I am going to be REEEEALLY disappointed if this doesn't have that. I would think that would be a given with the tow package. One of the most important things IMO. Somebody please tell me I'll have it!

So it looks like the only diff between a FW w/o V4P and one with it is V08, GU6 (3.42 gears) and the U89 wiring harness (which you could get at Napa). So mechanically it's just the gears and the fan.

And you get to say you have a 7000 tow package in a car. The looks on people's faces when I say that is priceless. Especially when it's more than their truck will pull.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong on any of this.

It's paid forr and the paperwork's done, it should start to ship up here next week.

Most of the gold emblems are done at the dealership, through aftermarket company's or Vogue Tyres. The extent of the gold plating on the car is up to the customer or what package deal they purchased. The cloth or carriage top is not factory, but again dealer installed. the car was probably order with it's desired package and the owner wanted a carriage top instead of vinyl.


Most be a southern thing. While in Texas, I noticed a lot of driftwood/ pewter cadillac's with gold emblems. ( all makes and models.)

I suspect that the V4P got a firmer shift tune.
