| Been watching for another ride for over a year. I have been all over the place, another wagon, fleetwood, pickup? I didn't know what I wanted. Then about 2 weeks ago i saw a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker for sale, never in salt. Hmm. Went to look at it and it was in excellent shape 56K, 440 V8. I told the man I needed to think about it. Went back today about 2 weeks later to look again. He was asking $2000. Other than me I don't think he has had anyone else interested. Well, I offered the man $1600 for the New Yorker and he accepted. He knew it needed tuneup, exhaust and maybe a battery. We are both happy. I wanted to pull the trigger before the little Mrs. comes home on Tuesday. I will be picking it up Saturday. I needed something different and here it is: Other than a good detailing, tuning up and the exhaust and battery, it doesn't need much. The vinyl top will probably need replacing at sometime. Tom | |

| Holy crap man, you did it! Glad to see you grabbed it, because I had been watching that on CL myself. Such a cool car, those New Yorkers were for the most part Chrysler Imperials originally, then Chrysler put the New Yorker name on them, and made the previous New Yorker the Newport. Just so you know, you STOLE that car. Like I told you before, the 2 doors of that model are VERY, very rare. I wouldn't change anything, if you want to get by longer and the top is on it's way out, you can spray it with white fabric paint if you mask it off nicely. If you get the top done, make sure there is no rust underneath...if there is get it fixed the right way before the new one goes on. Don't touch the paint! After seeing the dealer logo still on the trunk, I would try detailing it, that car is too damned original for a different paint job, even it was the same color, I'd preserve it, that's why I left the Impala alone. I'm no detailing expert but you can get a lot of info on sites like autopia.org to bring it back, a light wetsand then going over it carefully with a rotary polisher will do wonders. Plus, the car is white, that paint is VERY easy to match if it needs some touch up. I want to see this car in person! I'd recommend getting 1.3" whitewalls if you can find them and it needs any tires. Another idea is the old Mopar "Road Wheels" that were optional on full size Chrysler products. They look like a 2wd Chevy truck and van rally wheel, and would look great on that. This is also a good forum for info on those cars: http://cbodydrydock.com Also worth checking out: http://www.allpar.com/cars/chrysler/new-yorker-brougham.html Here's another one I've seen kicking around that has the Road Wheels on it: http://boston.en.craigslist.org/sob/cto/1428811494.html | |

How about primer, Oh Oh, excuse me, I mean satin black. No way, dude! Leave it how it is! It just could use to lose the caps and get some nicer wheels. I don't think ralleys would look good though... As much as I love them, they won't work on that sweet ride...

| Matt, I agree they look good and they did come standard or an option on the car. I know you poke around on the internet quite a bit, if you see some let me.
Guaranteed Bill will like them when he sees them.

| They are nice wheels, but they are too "Musclecar-y" for that fine luxury-looking ride... 'Sall I'm sayin'. | |

| Tom looks like a nice ride.
I wish I would've found such a deal when I was on the lookout for something 'different'. I bought a minivan but I have no regrets. Good lucck with it!

| Thanks everyone for the nice comments, should have it home in a few days. The RMW is on one side of the garage and 6 tons of pellets for the pellet stove on the other, so it will be wintering outside.
Matt, thanks for the links, I really like the C Body DryDock forum. Bill M, liked the links to the Jack Jones commericial for New Yorkers, I remember that commercial, and the guy from Dave's Farm. He is a character. I think "Pat" knows him.
Just to make sure the New Yorker knows the pecking order at the Cummings house; the RMW is in a heated garage and the New Yorker will be shivering outside.

| Thats right Tom, anything with "New York" in its name gets the lumpy bed in New England | |

Tom C. That aboy Tom. Show it who is boss. I think your right about the Dave's Farm. He is the guy who shortened a roadmaster sedan, and made it look like a buggy. As soon as I heard his voice, I remembered him. |
