| Guys, have an issue with my '74's driver's side wiper arm assembly- I'm hoping that these types of wiper arms were common on other Chevys. A metal piece riveted to the bottom that some springs hook to fell off. Therefore, there's no tension to the arm and it's kind of just loose on the windshield. I have all the pieces that I will probably just JB weld together, but I have to get the arm off. Found an NOS arm on eBay (90 bucks plus ship ), here's what the bottom looks like: Is there a hidden tab under the arm on the splined shaft that I can just press with a screwdriver? Hopefully someone's seen this happen before...looked on Google and it says I might need a special tool or something? | |

the 87 FSM calls for tool J-8966 or equivalent. Probably some sort of hook. EDIT: Looks like a flat piece of steel with two 90* bends that you can see that go under the wiper arm. Looks like it pops it off when you clamp the lever end down closer to the arm. the image from the FSM

| These arms are used on TBI trucks and third gen Camaros.
The tab near the splined hole locks the arm on. I use a screwdriver to gently move it to the unlocked position.
The one in the photo is in the locked position.

| Ha, that flat tab slides sideways? That piece actually came undone from the arm, the two pop-rivets failed. Found the rectangle with the two pop riveted holes and the flat tab with the rounded out corner sitting in the cowl drainage channel where the wipers "park". Guess I can just pull up on it then! | |
