PostSubject: 1/4 Window Removal question   Fri Dec 09, 2011 2:16 pm

I'm not too sure that anyone will actually be familiar with removing the 1/4 window from a 2 door box caprice BUT I have no idea Laughing

I Removed the three holders and thought it would pop out after that but I was wrong Question

So if anyone here has done it and knows how without breaking them I'd love to know. Those aren't something I want to head to the crusher with the carcass of the red caprice.

TIA Arrow

I'm not 100% sure of that one but Bubble's and G-bodys are glued in with a nasty butyl tape, Gotta heat em up with a heat-gun. I think Billy Mac has done em before.

I think Indy just did battle with the vent windows on the wagon. Same type of frame.
How about a cutoff wheel?

1/4 window comes out just like a bubble.
Remove the plastic interior trim Round it. Score it with a razor knife over and over along the edge where the black goop is.
It should pry out no problems.

Remove inside trim around window, use heat gun around the window on the backside of the metal surround while usinga puddy knife to cut the bond. Do not pry, just cut along the bead until you get it dug out. The heat gun is just to help soften the glue and heat up the puddy knife. You will never soften the whole thing at once to remove, so don't try. You have to dig. I hve used piano wire before, but it can damage both paint surfaces and the glass, so be careful.

Thanks guys! I'll try the razor tomorrow because I have that! If it doesn't work I'll get the heat gun out of the guys shop. Hopefully I can get the car in there soon. I'm worrying about snow!

BTW the plastic trim wont be an issue

This pic makes me think the heat gun will be necessary. I'll let you guys know how I make out. Thanks again!

Yould call a mobile Glass company to remove any glass you want to save. I have no idea what they charge, but it might be an option.

That is a good idea, I might look into that too see what they would charge for everything but the door windows. I'd like to avoid vacuuming the ground for glass and I'd like to keep those for just in case moments.

Matt I don't know the condition of the roof of the red one, but you might want to save it if it's still solid just for contingency purposes if the white cars roof starts giving you problems again, lol.

How the hell did that car get so rusty inside?

Also, I didn't get the windows out today, I unhooked the wiring harness and got it all set to have the body pulled off pretty much. That being said I broke the head off of the drivers side #2 body bolt... Evil or Very Mad Thank god the body is being cut up because I'm going to hack away to get to my frame!

You've got to read the whole sentence Steve! C'mon man! Cool

^Thats whats left of my old post Surprised Oh well I'm over it! But yes it doesn't matter. I'm bringing cutting tools out next time I'm down there.

I read it.
My point was, go ahead & break every head off & pick up the body, nothing will stop you. Only have to hack the body if the nut spins.
I'm not sure what I missed....but carry on. Arrow
