94 and 96 engine and tranny Empty
PostSubject: 94 and 96 engine and tranny   94 and 96 engine and tranny EmptyMon Feb 22, 2010 10:00 pm

k so i'm going to use a 95/96 harness, and i'd like to run the 94 engine.

So my plan is to use the 94 engine, a 95 impala ss harness. 96 tranny, and probably a impala ss rearend from Pooge when he's ready to get rid of one.

If i use just the 94 engine, can i use a 95/96 PCM with the 95 harness? 96 tranny work with this combo?

I'm scratching at straws, the 94 ABS uses a different harness, i thought it was in the engine harness its not. so i'm changing my plans.

Feedback would be great.

After all your posts in the two threads, it's becoming difficult to determine what you actually have available.

Might be a good time to start from square one with what you have for engines, transmissions, engine harnesses, PCM's and body harnesses on hand.

Next - what exactly is wrong with the ABS unit in the body of choice, i.e. - what is cut both electrically and mechanically?

Given a more accurate list we hopefully will be able to sort it out.

Sorry for the double post, i changed my ideas, so the new post was used for the fresh start. The ABS in the car is not there they removed it with the engine harness because the idiot didn't know how to unplug it, so they cut one of the lines.

I have the following.

1complete 94 9c1 caprice. This is lower miles, that is y i wanted to use it.
3 complete 96 9c1 caprice. High mileage on all 3.
96 4l60e tranny low mileage
95 L99 Tranny

Doug is looking for a 95 Impala ss harness for me for this 95 civie i bought, because it has power antenna, and all my 9C1 car harnesses do not have this option. hense the impala ss harness or a comprable loaded caprice harness.

It has the 7.5 rear end, i'm going to get an Impala ss rear instead of the 9c1 rear because of the width difference.

Now as i see it, the 94 ABS is attached to the drivers side harness, (light harness) it runs through the firewall behind the fuseblock under the dash. So this means i would have to remove the whole harness under the dash, and find a harness for the drivers side from a 94 with corner lights and ABS to install in the 95 civie car. all the cars i have do not have the power antenna option in the harness nor corner lights.

I have 95/96 ABS units o plenty. If i find a 95 harness with the correct antenna plug i will be allset for the engine harness and ABS and will only have to plug it in when said and done. i'm guessing.

The 94 LT1 has about 90k on it. I want to use this engine. That is my question, if i can use this motor, with the 95 harness.
I do not have a 95 PCM. I have 4 96 PCMs. 2 94 PCMs.

So that is what i am trying to come up with, is a combo i can put it this car, without rewiring the whole dash, or changing fuseblocks, and all that jazz. If worse comes to worse i will haul everything out of the 96, transplant and glue the antenna up.

This car is the nicest Caprice i have ever owned body wise, there is hardly any rust, i really want to save her, as soon as i get the title.

Thanks in advance.

3 complete 96 9c1 caprice. High mileage on all 3.

95 L99 Tranny

If I follow this correctly then you have a ’95 L99 car that you want to swap an LT1, decent 4L60E and a 9C1 rear into, while repairing the damage to the ’95 ABS system.

Since:

‘94 & ‘95 engines are the same.

‘95 & ‘96 transmissions are the same.

’94 & ’95 PCM’s are the same.

’94 –’96 9C1 rears are the same.

’91- ’94 ABS systems are the same.

’95-’96 ABS systems are the same.

Use the ’94 engine bolted to the ’96 transmission (and converter). Flash the ’94 PCM with ’95 code so that it can handle the transmission.

You say a line is cut – there are brake lines and wiring harnesses. I’m guessing you mean the ABS module is removed and the wiring harness is clipped because they didn’t know how to unplug it. Using the correct terminology is a big help.

Forget about using anything ’94 ABS in the ’95 – the systems are not compatible. There are far more differences than just the brake line routing. Repair any damaged hydraulic system components by scavenging parts from one of the ‘96’s

We need to know exactly what wiring is cut to determine how best to repair it.

How much wiring forward of the bulkhead connector at the passenger firewall is still there?

Is the forward lighting harness (the one on the driver’s side) damaged?

How much of the power antenna wiring remains?

Thanks J, i'm going to do just as you stated with the components.

when i say he cut the lines, i meant the brake lines, sorry bout that.

THere is no ABS its completely gone, brackett and all. The guy removed the L99 engine and complete harness, abs, rad, pcm, all of it, right through the firewall. He did unplug it from under the dash, thank heaven.

He cut all the AC lines, tranny lines, fuel lines, and some small wires on the harness side. Nothing a harness won't fix for that part.

The power antenna wire is there and fine on the antenna side. I just don't have a harness that will work. Working on finding one now.

The light harness is fine as far as i can see. as the lights do work when i plug in a harness and power it up.

Thank you for the help it appreciated.

Glen

Hi Glen,

Nice to hear from you.

If you can locate the correct '95 harness cheap, then get it.

If Doug still has the gold '96 parts car harness, that would work too, as I believe that one was well optioned.

If not, one of your '96 9C1 harnesses will likely work, with a few changes to account for the power antenna, and such.

It will go something like this:

There will be a few wires you won’t need, such as for the crank position sensor, they can be removed from the harness if you wish.

Rather than trying to make the '95 coil work, transfer over the '96 coil setup as it is better than anything else out there short of a CNP conversion.

Without a decent set of wiring diagrams handy, it is hard to know where the power antenna wires are connected, but if they are part of the engine harness, then it is only a matter of adding the three wires from the engine side of the firewall connector to the antenna itself.

I think that is about it.

Let us know how you make out.

- J

BTW - with all of your '96 9C1's listed, do you have a pair of front lower control arms you wish to part with? I'm looking for a set with the larger ball joints.

I'll trade you a set of bonnie seat brackets for them Smile

Thanks J,

Doug is on a mission to find me a 95 harness with the antenna plug, hopefully he will be successful. Id rather just go with the 95 harness, as i don't want to mess with the 96, but we shall see what happens.

I do have a couple sets of lower control arms, they are still on the cars, but i can get them off for you. They are not pretty, these cars were well used. But your welcome to them once i get a set off, as long as your not in a hurry.

Thanks again, once everything is in a pile, i'll be looking for more guidance.

Thank you again

Glen

Hi Glen,

No rush at all on the A-arms, I still will have to make set of the seat brackets if you want them, as the "Big Lebowski" and Doug got my last 2 sets.

You do realize you can add a power antenna just by running a wire from the stereo to the antenna and then grounding the circuit?

yes I did, but I need a harness anyway so I'm looking for one with it.
