Otherwise....major miss-fit (proper spelling)
But you cant run open wheels can you?
Guess its Finalit or nothing.

| I'm actually not really a fan of the open wheels on those, unless you go full out hot rod, which I don't plan to do. But a nice satin two tone green with the luggage racks, red wheels with moons, wide whites, lowered a few inches with a stinger pipe would be pretty badass.... | |

| Buddy of mine had an all original paint 67? I think it was. Baby blue, faded, just real OG. Roof racks, lowered, staggered 15s, and a mini "gangsta visor" like the 18wheelers have. When he went to the VW shows it was like friggin Paparrazi was everywhere, people would run over to take pics lol. car was so badass. I always liked them. He hydroplaned his and is rebuilding.. | |

| Bored with the Monte already?
According to superbeetles.com, stock fuel economy was 25 mpg carbureted (pre-1975), 33 mpg fuel injected.

| Lol Bill. Those are some sexy ladies.
Still not a fan of the dubs tho.
They are cool and everything. Great aftermarket support and following.
Just not my thing.
I have enough friends with dubs to supplement my void of one.

| So, do you want to actually know about beetles or just post up pics? I'm fine with either, but I don't want to take the time to school you if it's just an evening fad I am a super fan, to say the least. Scope out Volksrods.com to some true inspiration. | |

Hey Doug, I would love to hear what you have to say. I think I will get one in the spring. And it seems the die hard bug guys hate the fatchicks, but I think I'd want a super, too. And I think I'd want to swap in a scoobie 2.2. Super reliable without the turbo and I think that 130hp would be plenty in a car designed with 50... I was scoping Volksrods. Until the site bumped me out. Started calling me a creepy peeker, then locked me out until I registered. - IMPALADAKID wrote:

| Ok, I had a 69, bone stock, nearly mint, as my first car, great memories.
Super beetle has rounded windshield, big turn signals, and macpherson struts, more modern, handle better. However, purists will call you crazy, a real bug has a flat windshield.
What else do you need to know? I was always a huge fan of the volksrods and cal look cars. Never a fan of the chrome... Perhaps why I own an Impala...

Doug What do I need to know to own one? What do I look for? What do I avoid? Does the heat really travel up the rocker panels? Uninsulated? Propelled only by hope?

| They have to post a million chicks with the cars. The cars are so ugly no one would just take a picture of just the car for christ sake.
But for reference, neighbor had like 15 of the them, one did a massive wheely. And we pushed one down the road with a plow to get it home one night in the snow. VW engines don't like plow cutting edges pounding on them, or when they catch fire, pretty colors though.

Propelled only by hope? well, you don't need to know much to own them, anyone who can turn a wrench and work on any other vehicle will find these to be a breeze, I completely tore one down in a weekend when I was 12. They are way underpowered in stock form, Subi motors are the normal budget swap. Obviously with the age there is lots of rusty ones, but there are a few gems. I don't recall all the rust areas, but heater channels are a big one. Yes, heat is incredibly primitive and not well thought out, but I never drove mine in the winter, so I never used it. I will not bother figuring it out if/when I get another, because i will never use it. Like anything else, avoid one anyone has worked on or customized, and buy it from an old person. The issue with these cars is that a safety pin, paperclip, or other MacGuyver-ism could get it running again and often the real issue was never solved. I have seen these cars barely functioning and held together with duct tape. Parts are CHEAP and plentiful, you can often get a parts car for less than the price of a part you need The level of customize-ability in these cars is truly unparalleled. I have seen V8s in them, I have seen some sick chop tops, baja style, slammed, and I have seen them all chromed out and mint condition, there really is no end to the possibilities, and all are well received. I LOVE them with open wheels up front and a chopped top. I could go on for hours about what I would want to do to my next one... De-chromed, open wheels up front with spindle mounted fenders like a Plymouth Prowler, moon roof, mid-engine V8 with Porshe Transaxle?... etc, etc

| My brothers used to share driving duties of a 67 bug stock car. They raced it from 76-82 at Seekonk speedway. The first one was white #53, and the second one was orange and black #2. They called it the "Iron Mistress" and "Iron Mistress 2". | |

| What's a fair price for a "starter" bug? Is that one that Billy linked a good buy at like $2500? Just curious. He says it's plenty peppy and will do 90 on the highway... | |
