Are you kidding me?

Go to head to the inlaws for dinner this afternoon, and starter is dead. No biggie, I knew it was coming. I have had to bang on it a couple times. So I call around for the best price, including my store. I call pepboys, autozone, vip, and advanced auto. Only advanced auto carries it in stock. Everyone else is a special order. REALLY? Are you F#@$ing kidding me? Special order? WTF?
So I get one from advanced Auto, install and no workie. More of WTF? Pull it out, and bench test it. Yup, no workie. This started at 2, and three hours later, I have given up on dinner, given up on automotive parts chains. To special order a starter that should be in stock at every store in the land? WTF.

Rant over, I need a smoke!

I bet they had starters in stock for every Honda or Toyota on the road.

After calming down, ran back down to advanced auto. Guy tested the new old starter, and gave me another one. I was surprised he had a second one on the shelf. He tested, and good to go. BTW if you get the cheap reman from them for the caprice, you get the Corvette gear reduction starter. FWIW.

thats the way it always is..... i tried getting a key cut at the dealership cuz i wanted the Gm oval for the caprice and they had to special order the blanks from philly! no dealer within 150 miles had them w t f ? how many Gm vehicles use these blanks?

What is really hard for me to believe, is that a guy like Bill M. who has had so many B body engines and cars, does not have a starter kicking around.
