| OK, so we are going to Hawaii for our honeymoon and I am checking out car rental rates. USAA give me some pretty nice discounts, so that is a plus, but here is the biggest thing...
Keep in mind it is Hawaii...
I am torn as to whether to get the Jeep Wrangler for the whole fun in the sun style...
OR
Get the Corvette convertable for the fun in the sun style...LOL
Normally I would never even consider the Vette, but it's my honeymood and I'm sure I going to be doing sappy touristy stuff, so it would be as nice "me" thing.
Wrangler is $800 before discounts, Vette is $1500 before discounts and likely to have less discounts... My parents were nice enough to cover our hotel down there and I used miles for plane tickets, so I think I can justify splurging a bit on the car...but am I crazy?
Please weigh in with your thoughts.

Last time my friend went to hawaii, he got the jeep! To crowded for the corvette. I'm kind of wondering about that too, seems it will be crowded, and I will hopefully be doing some stuff down there with Dustan from the ISSF board who is stationed there, sounds like we might get into some more "real" stuff off the touristy path, like hikes and such, so the jeep might be smarter... However I still can't help thinking how cool it would be to pimp the vette for a week and a half. | Doug, seeing your asking, I will tell you my 2 cents: Yes you are wasting money, no question about it. In fact it is ridiculous! Go to priceline.com and you can rent a Lincoln town car for $30 per day. I just did that in Atlanta this past weekend.
Granted it probably is more in Hawaii and are you over 25?. Unless you are Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, $800 to $1500 will take a while to replace. A Corvette or a Wrangler is not going to make one bit of difference in your trip. I have been to Hawaii 3 times, and I couldn't tell you what type of car I rented and to be honest, I couldn't care less.

| Get the Jeep for one week. Get the Vette for a 1/2 week. | |

| Just get the cheapest thing with working a/c. You're there to enjoy the scenery and being with you're new wife. You have plenty of time to play with toys later. Remember 3 things: 1) Every hour there's another jeep or vette made 2) Hawaii is volcanic so the thing you see today may not be there tomorow or ever again 3) Your wife will someday be old and saggy just like you will Enjoy the things that won't last because you can't get them back later. Although people are making great strides curing saggy | |

| Thanks, I wanted to be told I was being a moron, you guys have done well, Jeep it is, though Jim's idea would be cool, not likely worth the hassle.
Open top is a must and you wont catch me in a Sebring, so Jeep it is.

| Hey I would go for the Vette, that's just me. I am completely biased towards GM vehicles. | |

| I'd say a Jeep is a better choice, Hawaii isn't very big and you're there to see the sights, I bet Magnum never got the Ferrari 308 up over 100 anywhere on the island...lol

This is the thread winner, point well taken, I will be purchasing a bag of Miracle Grow on the way home to start rubbing on my chest hair nightly. Doug _________________ 1996 Impala SS - 45K original miles - 5.3 LS swap - Brand new Bilsteins...WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

| The vette can only go on roads, the jeep can go anywhere. Some of the sights require 4x4. I hope you make it to Pearl Harbor. |

| I vote for the jeep too. You can find more "off the beaten path" secluded spots... _________________ Bill "The Verb" Crovo - Resident Car Slut & Unicorn Hunter A Toasted Marshmallow, A Long German, A Lame Suburban and expensive dreams...
