PostSubject: I am beat!!!!!!!   I am beat!!!!!!! EmptySun Apr 25, 2010 4:27 pm

Two days of working on the car has kicked my ass. I did the front suspension yesterday. I ran into a snag when I could not get the upper control arms off. I had just put new bushings in along with ball joints. I wound up pulling the ball joints out, and putting them in the old uppers. Lowers when in with out trouble. Monroe severe service shock, and zq8 bump stops I also put on new rotors, pads and a good used set of calipers. This morning I did all the steering along with a 9c1/SS box, all new lines, and some new, some used steering linkage. All in all, the car is alot tighter up front from when I brought it home. Next I tackle the rear brakes, and shocks, and two exhaust manifold leaks. One on both sides. Mad

use a chisel in between shaft and frame mount.I used new bolts so I hit them out plus it make it easier to to get the
new arms past the steering shaft

Too late. The front is all back together.

I tried pb blast, and then I tried heat. Both times trying to wedge them apart.

Putting the bushings into the upper c/a I borrowed a tool to install them, found the set I got from Mark was too small, had to buy two more bushing sets to get the right size.

If you drive around the block with the nuts loose it might free up. for ball joints you put a deep 1/2" drive socket
on the bottom ball joint nut then put a 1/2" bolt and nut in the square drive of the socket to push the upper ball joint stud

If you are removing a 100k steering box, and replacing it with a new, or freshly tightened box, then you will definately feel a difference.

What's more, if you are going from a Roadmaster/Civilian box to a 9c1/SS box you will notice a VERY large difference.

I'd recommend replacing the entire front end when doing it and your car will drive like a brand new car.

So rear brakes are done, and am working on getting the exhaust manifolds buttoned up, still have a couple bolts to get out on the drivers side. I still have to pull out the drivers inner fender, and replace the core support, install rear shocks, clean undercarrige and coat it with the chassis saver, and undercoating, remove a rattling heat shield, tighten the lower control arms, bleed the front brakes, bleed the steering system, install new inner fenders, and battery tray, put rollers in a couple windows.
And it rains today. Mad
