Guys, I need your opinion

Back in November 2009, I posted and sold my Vortech Supercharger Kit. I bought it for 1800.00 plus 200 for injectors and 200 for a crank pully that "fell out of the box" when it was shipped tp me. Now I posted it as a partial kit and made it clear with descriptions and pictures of what was included and was not. So I have $2200.00 into this kit, and never installed it on my car. The guy that bought it called me several times asking questions and I was straight with him with my answers and made it clear to him to be 100% sure that he wants this kit.

I sold him everything for $1575.00 shipped to Ohio.

He called me tonight, said he sent it to Vortech for a rebuild. They told him the blower head was junk and needs to be replaced, it will cost him $2000.00 to replace it. Nothing seemed wrong with it when I had it and I would have done the same when I was ready to install it. (send it to Vortech for a rebuild) He's demanding I send him $500.00 to"make it right" He wants me to call Vortech and talk to the guy about it so I can be "convinced" that the blower is bad.

What do you Think?

tell the guy you got it from that it was junk and hit him up for $500

Probably can't do that, I've had it for 2 years.

I would call the company and talk to them, then and only then offer to pay half or nothing of what he is asking for. After all, he would still be in it a lot less than new either way.

Bruce, in my opinion unless you are a business used parts are as-is. Once I have had an issue with one of the parts I had sold and I "made it right", but we are talking about $50 item, not a supercharger.

You want a warranty you buy new, simple as that.

You guys Know me, I'm an honest seller. If I knew something was wrong with with it I wouldn't have even tried selling it. At one point in our conversation he mentioned a Police report.

I still would comfirm with the company. Just get their number and call them. Don't take a number he gives you. Ask them how much to rebuild. 2k seems steep for a rebuild. Sounds more like that would be the cost for a replacement.

And for the record I can comfirm you are one of the most honest upstanding guys I have ever met Bruce, so no worries.

There are people out there who go through life getting discounts and/or free stuff by complaining just like this. It's amazing how rich these people usually are too. I see it all the time with home improvements, a customer will pick a material they like, it gets installed, they love it, then a few weeks later they complain to the store they bought the material from saying they hate it and want "some" of the money back to "make it right", yet they'll gladly keep the material that they "hate".

This guy may be telling the truth, but even if he is, he shouldn't be complaining about a kit that wasn't expressly sold with a warranty on it. Police report? For what?

Anytime you buy a used performance product, you should go into it expecting to have some or part of it to be refurbished. I wouldn't send him 500, after it's rebuilt I would imagine that it would be warrantied AND cheaper than buying new. Just my opinion of course. And yes, sometimes people with money do have a bad habit of getting free or discounted things because life didn't go their way...go figure.

I Agree, When I bought the kit and found out the crank pully was missing, we tried to resolve it with Fed Ex. It became too much of a hassle, I accepted that and moved on. I found out later that it is a custom machined pully from a 96 Corvette. I found one on Ebay bought it and included it in the kit. Made it clear that it still needed to be machined. About the police report, I said the same thing---"where's that going to get you?"

Not sure what trim you said you had, but even the cheapest goes for 3k. Tell him to STFU.

The second he starts talking about cops and such it's evident that he's just looking for an easy score. Tell him to go F himself and extort money from some other sap. If he wanted a perfect setup he would have bought it brand new and since he didn't he should shut up about it. I'm sure Vortec probably didn't think it was a junk unit unless he told them that he wanted it rebuilt to better than stock specs.

Same thing I was thinking. You don't know what he's done with yours, or if the one he sent in was yours! Walk away, it's used.
