Storing for the winter

Well the Cap wagon has certainly seen enough winter/snow/salt in its time, so its getting stored in my Girlfriend's parents garage this winter. Sure, its already rusty, but I don't want it seeing more of that ish... Ive never put a car away for the winter, what should I do? Is there a "proper" way to store it or do I just park it and forget about it? I was going to give it a thorough wash& vacuum, park it & disconnect the battery... does that sound about right? Oh and btw it wont be getting parked until mid-late Oct, just thought I'd ask.... Thanks, -Paul

Change the oil with new filter, lift car by frame to get it off the ground and take weight of supension and tires and put fuel stabilizer, in and check the antifreeze to make sure it is capable of 10 below, remove battery, and store in warm location off the floor if floor is concrete. Place rodent traps near each jack stand to keep them out of the car.

That sounds like the best advice you'll get. My way was always to just leave it and every couple weeks start the car and let it run for 10 minutes and move it back and forth a couple feet just to keep fluid circulating in the trans and to make sure the tires don't get too warped. Billy's list is for those who want to store a car correctly.

I do everything Billy said except pulling the bat, I do fire and run once a month. For what it's worth I also top it off with super and use Damp Rid in and around the car.

moth balls in baggys on the floor, under the hood. If the garage is open anywhere put steel wool in the tail pipes to keep the squirels out. The only problam i see with the traps is if u don't check them daily, they can stink up a car in a hurry.

I just park it with a full tank of premium. Never had a problem yet.

Change the oil in the spring.

Basically just change the oil directly before it's parked, or change it before it's moved in the spring.

FULL tank of gas with bottle of stabilizer.

Disconnect battery. Jacking it up it's totally necessary, but you may end up with flat spots on the tires.
