| Yup. My second foray into BMW Autocross bliss! This one is MUCH nicer. 1996 328i 5 speed. Loaded. Blah blah blah. Kid paid 3500 bucks for it in the fall and had a problem with no heat on the passenger side, so he proceeded to take the ENTIRE FRIGGIN DASHBOARD out of it last month. He got himself in way over his head and just gave up and got a loan on a new car. He had it listed on CL for like 1500 bucks. I paid waaaaay less than that. But I ended up with THIS Well, maybe it'll look like less of a task if I take it out of the car and see what I've got? Uhm.... Nope. He was driving it from Sandown NH to Boston (about 40 miles each way) every day for work with no issues other than the heat until he took it apart. Battery was dead and no coolant in it, so I took his word for it. Worst case, I part it out and just double my money. But anyways, now it's home. Time to try and piece it back together. I'm noticing a lot of broken parts, looks like he gorilla'd it apart at the end, so I may need to source a new heater case assembly from a boneyard... We'll see. But it's not bad looking. Pretty nice shape. Has a Koni suspension and an aftermarket exhaust. Hope to daily it and maybe autocross it a bit. Book on it is like 4300 bucks, so I may just flip it... Ya never know... | |

And someone to help you install that disaster i hope. damn. I wish! Nope... Solo here... Apparently, bimmer owners really are douchebags that don't help others out. So, here's my doner car at Holland's today. I had already started removal, as you can see. But despite the unfamiliarity with the car, the 90+ degree temps and humidity and the car being friggin BLACK, I was victorious!!!! Oh yeah, picture of my... uhm... unit... All in all, it wasn't that bad. Now I get to remove the rest of the mess out of mine and put this one in. Yay. Only thing that really sucks is that I'm going to lose my AC charge... Oh well. Sorry environment! Ok, so... Off to the carport! At least there's SHADE there. | |

| I know, right? That's what I felt like! So I spent an hour or so and got mine the rest of the way out this afternoon. And here's the "new" and what's left of the old. It really is a good thing I just decided to get a complete replacement unit. There is NO WAY I could have put the original back together. That thing was busted EVERYWHERE! And when I was comparing the two, I noticed that the "new" one had one of the connectors cannibalized off it. Crap. So I got the harness off the old one, very carefully, and transferred it to the new one. All the plugs were in the right places! So I'm pretty sure I have the right one now! I did have to cut the wires going to the blower motor though, because I didn't want to take that whole contraption apart on the replacement. Nice & easy two wire splice and it's ready to go back in. I'm just waiting on a replacement cabin filter. I figured I should replace it while it's accessible. I went to Autozone and they didn't have it in stock. I did get the o-rings I needed for the AC and heater core lines though. I'll just hit pep boys or advance tomorrow and get the filter. If not, it goes back together as is. So, hopefully, if all goes well tomorrow... I may get a chance to try and fire it up and see if it even runs! And if I'm REALLY lucky, maybe I can even DRIVE it! WOOT! | |

| So, I did much bleeding and had some successes and some failures with the stupid Beemer. Also, many broken parts that I DIDN'T know about were discovered. Did I mention that I did a lot of bleeding and "clearancing" of my hand and arms and fingers today? I've come to the conclusion that Germans must have really small hands. Like, Burger King small... Also, had a few things to do on the marshmallow. Those went just as well. Ever seen a mandrel bent hood support? Well, now you have. I was installing a breather filter and stepped away with tools and supplies on the fenderwell and a big gust of wind came from the wrong direction and blew my hood closed for me. Effing unbelievable! Just the icing on the cake for my Eurotrashed waste of a weekend. Boo. Fail. *sigh* I know, I know. I shoulda never bought a BMW. You're right. I'll get it together though. I'll try to find the motivation to work on it a couple nights after work this week. But don't wait too anxiously for an update. Frankly, I just can't stand the pressure right now. Oh yeah, and for the record, this SEM plastic adhesive SUCKS! Avoid it! Long story short... It kept starting to cure as I was mixing it, turning into this useless gel crap that wouldn't adhere to ANYTHING! Stupid, expensive, piece of shit, epoxy crap... | |

| This thread is full of win. I think if you have to do anything mechanically to the car, aside from the cluster f&ck you have with the dash, you'll find tbt they're quite easy to work on. I <3 my Euro Trash. 2 years of ownership, 34k miles, and all I've done is a water pump & t-stat, plugs, Fuel filter and rear pads & rotors. 173k currently | |
