A Grim End Empty
PostSubject: A Grim End   A Grim End EmptyTue May 14, 2013 8:55 am

Went to a local Junk Yard in Worcester, Ma looking for a lt1 throttle cable and some other goodies and struck out.

All they had was 2 89 box caprices a 92/93 RMS and a 91 caprice sedan

As I'm approaching the lineup I'm like "Nice a 91/92 caprice". It ended up having 93-96 tail lights so I was bummed.
I needed chrome front door trim from a 91-94 for my caddy to shave the 95/96 mirrors.
I decided to pull them off the RMS. As I'm pulling them I glance over at the 91 caprice and notice it has 95/96 red caprice seat.
In my head I'm thinking "wow I did that to a 91 like 5 years ago"
When I was finished pulling my trim I walked over to the 91 to look it over.

Hmmm....
-modded interior
-blue steering column
-grant steering wheel
-custom arm rest

SHIT this WAS my car!!!!! It actually was my FIRST bubble style caprice I ever owned!

I was upset the whole day. It was still in nice shape. If I had the room here and could buy it outta there I WOULD. rebuild it and keep it forever.
Anyone else ever find one of their cars in a yard that they DIDNT put there??
I'm Truely heartbroken, No

That always hurts to see that, especially after you put a one of work into it. I came across a 97 Riviera in a local yard that I sold a few years prior and had the same realization. As soon as I sat in the car I was hit with the familiar smell of that car. Looked under the hood and saw the rigged repairs I did years back and knew it was the very same car. I ended up buying the hood struts off it which failed 2 days later, I think it was payback for selling it Razz

On a related note, how was the interior in that Caprice? I've been wanting to put an all red interior in my 9C1.

The seats and door panels looked good. They were out of my 96 l99 car (second bubble I owned and first csr I got ripped off on pretending to be lt1) the only thing that was bad was the center arm rest. The RMS next to it was a limited seated car in good shape too.

Bummer Sad.

I found my red Grand Marquis on Copart (although the only "owner" after me was the insurance company). From there it appears to have met its end at LKQ in Chicopee, about a month after I had stopped in there.

Mint I'm sure. I had only a fee minutes with her. I plan to go back to get a memento off it something I can put o the caddy or wagon and have a little bit with me for a while. I'll scope it out,

Dude, that sucks. I've never found one I've owned in an actual yard, but my friend did buy my old Suburban off the guy I sold it to, and it was badly abused. I was bummed because I took really good care of the thing, only to have some pussies pop the ignition in the middle of the night and crash it into a house. Then that happens to it afterward.

I like walking around the junkyard because it's kind of like a cross-section of society, much like working on people's houses instead of sitting in an office. You see dirty cars, and others someone tried to take care of, those ones make me feel bad. Then there's the ones that make you straight up confused as to why it got junked. That box Caprice at Hollands I found there had 40-something thousand miles, a few of the original wide whitewall tires still on it, and had been owned by an older guy who had built a Buick Nailhead powered drag bike, postcards of which I found in the car along with tools and supplies from his shop. Someone didn't even care and junked it after he'd passed away. Just sad, the car was nice.

Whoops. I was thinking of the one in Leominster. In that case, it ended up at some yard in Chicopee I've never been to.

I see LKQ trucks here and there, but none are DIY yards.

My company has a contract with LKQ. The yard we service, last I knew, had 2 Caprices (93 and 96) and a 96 RMW. You can't pull parts tho. Laaaaame. I'm sure they have been crushed since I was there last in November.

And THAT is wastefulness at it's best! SMH

Those cars and their parts weren't at the end of their useful life I'm sure... Just like TONS of Cash for Clunkers cars were still in good shape. I better not start on this one.. Surprised
