I was cleaning out the cabinets in the bathroom at my shop, and I found something really cool (weird place to find it huh?)

When my grandfather had the new Chevrolet dealership, they used to send promotional "movies" on reel. He has a ton boxed up in one of the cabinets that had been opened and probably played a bunch of times....but I found this!!



This is the "Proof of Pluses" promotion from Chevrolet, brand new and never opened. It was postmarked March of 1956! Even the decor on it scream 50's lol

I wonder what something like this is worth and unopened condition like this??

The only reason I can think of is that my Grandfather must have already received one, and threw this in the box as an extra.

Absolutely amazing.

I think you'd have to find some sort of automotive appraiser for that thing!

Yea, it is a pretty nutty time capsule. I am not really looking to unload it, but I am certainly curious what its worth. I cant imagine there are too many of these running around, unopened with all the postage!

That film and probably a thousand others were made by the Jam Handy Organization for Chevrolet (and some for GM) from the early 1930s into the 1960s. Many were dealer training films and some were released in theaters as "shorts" that played before the main feature. The latter were disguised as news, although they always featured Chevrolet very prominently.

They also made propaganda films for the government (and General Motors) during WWII.

There are many Jam Handy films on You Tube and they are fun to watch if you are interested in film making, as I am. Nothing like sitting through 18 minutes of "Understanding the overhead valves of the new Chevrolet Blue Flame Six."

Jamison Handy's view of America wasn't really the way it was but it was the way Chevrolet wanted us to think it was.
