| The emblems on my SS have been blacked out and I want to remove the paint and return them to the stock chrome look. It looks like you can use a heat gun or fishing line/dental floss to remove the emblems. I was also going to use paint stripper to remove the paint.
What kind of adhesive is used to re-attach the emblems?
Also, what ideas do you guys have for removing the paint from the trim around the side door windows? Does the trim pop out easily?

| The emblems were attached from GM by 3M double sided tape. I would definitely use fishing line! As for removing trim paint, I can't help you. I usually paint it. | |

| It's 3m tape, I removed them, and put painted ones on with new 3m tape. | |

| Where are you located??
Take the emblems and submerge them in super purple engine degreaser (white or purple bottle at any local walmart or parts store) leave over night and the paint will come off when you rinse under water, will not hurt chrome,
Window trim is all easily removable except the quarter windows,
Around the regular windows is as follows: Roll window down, remove Phillips head screws on inside edges of door where it meets the jamb. Remove weather stripping and unclip chrome trim. On the Top edge is the same thing and they pull down.

Thanks guys for the tips.
IronFist -
Do these steps cover the rear quarters as well or are there extra steps?

| Quarter window trim might be able to be accessed under the C pillar trim, | |

I will perhaps try the Super Purple engine degreaser IronFist recommended. I might just leave the window trim alone then. It is starting to slowly flake off anyway.

| I had to scrape the flaking trim with an exacto. Then some scotchbrite before self etching primer & paint I'm not sure if I was scraping of paint or tape but it was tough...really stuck. It had started to flake of but I'm not sure if it was bad prep or lack of care (on my part) Hopefully I wont need to do that again
Edit: I'm not putting on my chrome emblems again because I have some decals I'm going to try out. I wouldnt even use the decals except when the prior owner applied the emblems it damaged the paint. I like my impalas low profile.

| Just to double check, I want the 3M double sided tape, not the molding tape?

| What type of adhesive is used on the lettering on the rear quarters? Its not that 3M adhesive glue stuff is it? I hear that stuff ruins paint. | |

| Whatever they use doesn't remove paint. I took some off my other car and its came off with no issue, just the shadow was there. | |

| I use the 3M trim tape for emblems etc. I have fixed most of my sagging belt line trim with it and on all my emblems. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/3M-1-2-in-x-15-ft-Molding-Tape/_/N-25ej?itemIdentifier=517047_0_0_ | |
