| Since one of our company vehicles got totalled last week (2008 KIA sorento) my boss has put me in charge of buying my take home car. We've agreed on a Crown Vic. It needs to be black or dark blue (to stay with the company colors). P71 is a plus and a spotlight a bigger plus. Can't be a pos rat box as I will be putting company graphics on it and picking up current and potential clients for business meetings. He only gave me $2500 of the insurance check to work with, but I'm sure that's do-able. 1998-2003ish. No black wheels. Hub caps or alloys only. Thanks guys for any and all help if you see one in your area and can take pics, get price and details. I'm already cruising craigslist but I like reaching out to you other car guys. This is my response to him buying a smart car for patrols. My supervisor/admin. car is gonna be a tank! | |

| Lol. Thanks. That is a very nice deal. I could have it painted black or blue, but we'd like to skip that if possible. Is that a n.h. Statie car? I really dig the interior color. I know these cars are a dime-a-dozen that's why I wanted one. There's no real demand like a 9c1(wouldnt want one anyway) Cheap parts, easy to maintain. I plan on checking out grace quality used cars (usedpolicecars.com) to see what they have. I see a few candidates on their site. I'm trying to save some money here since we lost both of our patrol cars. I'd still love a sport tho ha! Too much money. | |

| There was a black 'Vic LX at a dealer near my work. Has the lace alloys. Beige leather interior I think. I'll be by there tomorrow. I'll see if its still there. | |

| Thanks for the help guys. We are driving up to Weare, N.H. to look at/buy a good, low mileage(for its age) crown vic that was an unmarked, 1 owner take home car from the Ma. state police. The price is right, new tires and other essentials were the selling point. I'll post pics and more information once we get it back and upfitted. So, its not a b / d body, but that doesn't seem to be a big deal around here. | |

| Just to update. I have crossed over to the dark side my friends. Monday we drove up to Weare, N.H. to buy a '98 CVPI. It has 101k miles, new high speed rated tires, tune up, trans flush, all copper brake lines, zinc coated trunk, new belt, and battery. It was a one owner Ma state police unmarked take home car. Essentially we are the second owners. It's dark blue/blue cloth/vinyl guts, chrome hubcaps, and it came with 2 different style grills. The trooper that had this car was a fanatic. He oiled and wd40'd the wheel wells and under carriage. There is ZERO rust. The only thing it needed was an air filter and a corner light bulb. It's unusual in the fact that it was ordered with a carpet, cruise control, traction control, and power seats. All the electronics are still intact which will be coming out. Spotlight works and there's 3 antennas that will cause rust issues in the future. I'm very impressed with its age and condition. I did however remove a very involved rodentia nest under the cowl today. Paid $2700 for it. No pics cuz I'm on my phone. I'll do before/after when the company graphics get installed. Interesting note, '98 was the only year P71 to come standard with a chrome grill, chrome bumper trim, and flat black rear fascia. Also, its the only year that didn't say "police interceptor" on the trunk. Instead it says crown victoria. 98-99 1/2 had a separate turn signal/flasher bulb in the rear light housing. All newer models they are integrate into the brake light bulb. | |

| Excellent turn around then! You didn't like it or was it junk? I'm very pleased with this one so far. Driven almost 300 miles in it for work. | |

| Sounds like a great find! Keep an eye on the intake maifold; they were plastic until 2001 and have a tendency to crack. It might have been replaced under recall. | |

Right at the Thermostat housing. I hope you have a temp. gauge, that's what saved me from overheating my 4.6!

Anytime! If the tranny shudders at all. Go have the filter CHANGED not a flush, but a full change and topped off with Mercon V and it will be all set. They aren't the best transmissions ever, and even though it is a work vehicle a J-mod is something you might want to look into!
