| I've made the leap. My wife is and isn't amused. I have wanted to get one of these babies for a while. I've got it registered, not inspected. Work done brakes, new straps and a battery. I had to evict/ehume the mice that were living in the back gate and delete the gate ajar light. That has been just the begining as I'm sure you all know. The car runs and I've been taking short trips here and there. It's been stalling though. I've had a mechanic tell me it's the opti, etc. I also took a look at the throttle body and it had(s) a lot of build up. I didn't get totally into it, but did a little cleaning I was lacking the throttle body cleaner as we had company and I wasn't allowed to go to the parts store. I used a bicycle degreasser and was able to remove some of the carbon. However after reconnecting the sensors it now is giving me a service engine soon light. Thoughts and imput are appreciated. Anyone in the area that wants to give me some skooling, I'd appreciate it. Help me get this beast road worthy. Thanks.

Oh Boy....whats in bicycle degreaser? & did you spray it or..? - cctrack78 wrote:

What sensors did you disconnect? are you saying you removed the TB so you disconnected the TPS, IAC & hoses? - cctrack78 wrote:

I suggest asking BEFORE you do stuff if your not familiar. Some things can get you in trouble if your not aware. Welcome tho

| I think that it's cirtrus based?! I did disconnect the whole intake, home base etc. I wasn't trying to spray directly into the intake. I mostly used a rag and tooth brush. I took off the three? sensors too..... | |

| Did you reconnect the MAF? Does it run any better or worse? Does it idle? If you rev it...is it fine? Gotta give some hints | |

| Did you reconnect the MAF? Master air flow? I believe that I reconnected everything. Does it run any better or worse? It is about the stame, with the adition of the light coming on. Does it idle? Yes. If you rev it...is it fine? It seems okay, not great, same. Gotta give some hints
The car stalled last night and it has been stalling. I noticed after I got it back running last night that it was sparking in the dark, I don't know if that means the cable is shot or what.
The engine has a belt-wine/metalic sound to it that varies in loudness. Sounds like something that needs lubrication. I'm not a mechanic. I just wanted to clean the throttle body of the carbon, it is really dirty. Car has ~146k. It sat for a while. Last inspection was 2010. Thanks. I appreciate the input.

Sounds like something that needs lubrication. Does it have the mechanical fan? Chances are the little pulley (idler) that keeps that belt tight is shot. Just my guess. I pulled the fan right out (leave the mounting bracket for now), eliminating that belt. 1st pull the shroud, then the fan & belt (idler will probably fall out...lol) then re-install the shroud. The electric fan will take care of temps increasing in traffic - cctrack78 wrote:

Matt I'm not either. Just trial by fire....and alot of advise from the guys on this forum. If something doesnt make sense to you or you dont understand...just say so, no problem. Like I said, just ask away. Someone will always jump in if a question goes unanswered.

| I haven't had a chance to really get into it. With two small kids and my Brother visiting, I only got to take a look at the intake manifold and see how dirty it was yesterday. I want to chase the spark issue too.
So the fan is both belt driven and electric when it starts to over heat?! The electric idle fan.
I also want to get to redo the intake. I saw the C5 set-up. That looks nice and neat. Where do I get one of those? The current set-up is so obtuse. I also am not getting heat from the car too. I really need to find time to get this thing going the way it needs to be running.

| So...fix the spark issue, that'll help I'm sure.
I guess I was asking.... Do you have an electric fan (mounted directly behind the radiator)? If not...DONT remove the mechanical. If JUST mechanical, there is a small pulley down low where you cant really see it....it's probably shot. If you have BOTH, then the mechanical can come out.
Search the maintanence section for the NO HEAT thread (basically the heater core is plugged / restricted)
Ask about the C5 setup in the parts wanted / for sale section.
