| Soon I will be installing(with some good help) a low mileage 4L60E from what I believe was a '96 B4U. It may be a dumb question, but is there any difference for a 9C1 4L60E? The only thing Ive found is that the years vary to some extent. Being that its from a '96, going into a '96, there should be no problems. I plan on having the problematic trans built up with a shift kit and such at some point, so I need this to be able to work for now. | |

| My trans will go right in.
Differences:
’94: First year of electronic controls in the valvebody (versus the ’93 4L60, which did not have this). The PCM controls line pressure (holding power and shift feel), 1-2, 2-3 and 3-4 shift points (rpm), and TCC lockup (timing and in the ’95-up models, apply feel). Everything else is done mechanically/hydraulically.
’95: Added a Pulse-Width Modulation Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) apply solenoid to control the feel of the TC clutch lockup (blamed for many 4L60E problems; TransGo HD2-C bypasses this, or you can stake the TCC apply valve in place). Also changed 3-2 downshift solenoid mid-year (see '96, below).
’96: PWM TCC plus a different tailhousing design with new-style Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Also changed the 3-2 downshift solenoid in mid-1995 from TBD to TBD. There was a new manual valve added along with a relief port over the manual valve on the valve body casting with this change. This solved the low/reverse clutch release problem and makes the TransGo manual valve mod unnecessary. | |

| Sounds good. As far as the job goes, Ive never R&R'd a tranny except at school. Its different when its your own car . How long will this job take per say, with the exhaust and cross member removal? Its a good thing theres no rust | |

| Few hrs with hand tools, 6 bolts in the bell housing, Probably the hardest part.... 3 15mm torque converter bolts 4 u-joint bolts in the rear end 1 nut in the middle of cross member I believe it's 4 bolts for the cross member to frame If you have dual exhaust it will be easier. Just undo the ball/socket where cats meets intermediate's might not even have to come off. Biggest pita is working on the jack stands and doing the bell housing bolts. I got torches and air tools though just incase the cross member want to be stubborn. | |

| I've installed transmissions in about 15 or so cars, the top 2 I usually do with 6 sided bent wrenches, and the bottom 2 are pretty straight forward....., it's the 2 in the middle that make me wish the car would just fall on me. I will try the 2 1/2' of extensions. Btw CLEAN pic! I'll post the stop watch time When we get to this project . Also for anyone who's interested in transmissions. The link Bill posted above is a great thread. Has all the info on how to interchange 94,95,96 4l60e's good read if you have the time, | |

| The new trans went in today. Thanks to Indigo and pouring rain/thunder and lightning with jack stands and 3 floor jacks to supplement the fact that we didnt have a trans jack. All went well and quick with the two people, basic hand tools,and no problems driving an hour home. Thanks again! | |
