| I just stumbled upon this, just had to post it...footage from some TV station archives that were found.
I think this is in Holyoke, MA, around 1976. There was a news crew riding along with the state police (or possibly locals) for some other reason, when they got caught up in this debacle. Dude tries to get away (with nowhere to go) and well, you see what happens. Wonder if they ever got the car out...haha.
Mt. Nonotuck Incident https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ywftf4VCQw#
Diggin' the old police cruisahs, I spy an old Ford MSP cruiser, Plymouth Gran Fury, (Bluesmobile body style, in French/Electric blue) and an unmarked 1975 Chevy Bel Air. The footage tacked on to the end of this is pretty funny as well...

| What was that guy thinking? He was going to find a shortcut down the mountain?

| Judging by his behavior when the cops pulled him up the mountain, he was high and clearly had no idea what was going on.
On another note, that clip at the end of the cars in the snow at Rt 5 and Hampden st is funny. That intersection sure hasn't changed much. If cars today did that half of them probably wouldn't even be drivable.
Also, Matt it looks like the news crew was with the MSP and Holyoke PD came in towards the end once the car was down the hill. | |

| Did some more digging. This thing really piqued my interested for some reason. Apparently happened in 75/76 when MSP chased this guy thru Mt.Tom, he got to the last lookout point and instead of surrendering intended to commit suicide. The cops in black at the end were Easthampton PD as the car went over on the Easthampton side of the mountain.

| Matt, (and anyone else curious) I got some more info on this. One of the limo drivers at work is an ex registry cop/statie (from the merger in '92) and was on the job when this happened. He said if its the incident he recalls, The story was the guy had a warrant for his arrest and the state police had chased him up the mountain while he was high on LSD. He apparently had a suicide pact with the girl in the video, then tried ramming a cruiser, ended up down the side of the mountain like we see in the video. He also said there was an incident similar to this in 67 and another in 69 but he's pretty sure the story he related to me was the one in the video. | |
