Yeah they are! One of my favorite mods, EVAR, for our cars. And I STILL haven't done it yet!

Way cool! Arrow

The trunk flashers were already there when I got the car. This car is new to the club, it was dumped in the previous owner's yard for the last 3-4 years before I bought it.

The same thing since they're essentially the same as the 91-92 overhyped-for-swapping-over taillights.... Laughing

91-92 was a smooth plastic unit with a chrome strip in the middle on some (I think it was only some, right? Or was it all of them?) that showed the contrast betwixt the individual light bulbs slightly more.

93-96 was the same light, but with less contrast between the lamps, bright trim around the outside, and ribbed lines running across them horizontally, the Impala used these, but had black lines painted in the grooves, and the chrome/aluminum trim around the outside was painted black.

I like both but people are always trying to say the new ones are boring and ghey, I don't see one being any better. I'd like to have both and swap them back and forth every year personally. The newer ones remind me of what it would look like if Pontiac sold a 90s Parisienne, they always seemed Pontiac-looking to me compared to the 91 and 92.

I like the 91-92's personally. The chrome strip goes good with the chrome lip on the trunk lid.

wish i wasnt so lazy i would have had a video of mine up in feb one of the easiest mods ive done and buy the universal kit then go to the junkyard (or back yard for some of us) and grab 2 duel filament marker light bulbs and pigtails trim the middle brake light hole to fit and save your self the 70 or so bucks ......along as your not afraid to look at a wiring diagram for a few seconds.

Even if your not going to go for the sequential tail lights add that duel filament bulb to the middle brake light so there isnt doesnt look like you always have a middle brake light out on both sides a simple cheap mod that once you see makes you wonder what they were thinkin other than really needing to get rid of some tiny bulbs

.
I have been working on some modifications to the headlights, tail lights and the wiring associated with them.

After seeing this site, . . . http://www.sequentialtaillights.com/buckets.html . . . and some others, I was inspired to take on this project.

His (Marvin Davis's) "Mod" page will answer just about every question one might have on the tail light subject for 91-96 Chevy B-Bodies.

He explains why he does not simply install dual element bulbs directly into the center bucket cavity, but makes a receiver plate to place the bulb's filament at the same (optimal) distance from the red lens surface, and to focus properly within the geometry of parabolic reflector.

This shows how he does it. http://www.sequentialtaillights.com/socketplate-inst.html

The "sequential" part is actually less important to me than the problem of the dull appearance from the tail lights as well as the poor light distribution and output of the head lights.

I have "sworn testimony" from a few enthusiasts that the 91-92 tails were the same across all models except most if not all LTZ models that reportedly have that horizontal trim strip finished in black instead of chrome. I personally do NOT know if that info is reliable.

But I DO have both GM part numbers that distinguish the two styles if anyone is interested, but no LTZ specific tail light part numbers have been available for several years.

I also have a few clear photos of of these "black strip tail lights" on my computer, so if anybody wants to see them, I will try to get them on PhotoBucket to post here.

Also, if you look closely, you can see that the 91-92 tail lens strip is exactly in line with the dark gap between the bumper and the properly aligned trunk lid, therefore it does not line up with the higher sitting 93-96 (non-SS) bumper mounted chrome center moulding strip.

There is a PDF file that explains how to manage the "flash frequency" issue with lights having a different load/resistance, which will also be very helpful when installing LED bulbs back there.

There are several SAE & DOT regulations concerning the ratio of light output between rear tail lights as compared to brake application brightness (5:1), visibility at off-axis angles and etc. etc. I have those complete PDFs loaded, but they are VERY tedious to read thru, , , yes, much worse than my posts are here.
