Brand Loyalty!

As much as I love to stick to chevys, clearly when I bought the cougar I was at the point to make exceptions. And today I did it again!

Took a ride in a brand new GT500......


Best push you back into the seat experience so far. When you hit 100 in 3rd gear you have to start opening up to other cars.


But, next car I buy will most likely be a silverado or a B-body anyway so don't worry, I wont be jumping ship!

I dont care how fast of a car they make I still wont be looking at any ford. I will always own gm.

I love my GMs. I know them inside and out, and they are built just about as half-ass as I would build something LOL. I do own 2 Chrysler vehicles, but GM still wins.

Name a ford other than a mustang or mustang derived car that's awesome? Now name all the awesome GM cars... There's the reason right there why chevy's are so great. Tim said it, don't matter how fast it goes.... Its an issue of style and class. (At least for me) never owned a ford, never will. Although I may want to take a mustang for a test ride sometime just to take it up the road and take a shit in the back seat. This isn't a knock, its ultimately up to you what you buy/drive, but Chevy/ford rivalry runs deep. A die hard chevy guy may flirt with a mopar, but would never even speak to a ford

I use to be "brand" loyal BUT not anymore.. Had the Ford muscle cars for years !! Then in 86 went to the Turbo Buicks an then the old Olds wagon here. Now I am thinking of selling my ricer and wagon an getting the "blue oval blood" thing goin again

Never said I was jumping ship to ford, but I like some of their stuff.

Number one I'm a GM guy but ford and mopar are OK to me with SOME vehicles.

Its the toyotas and hondas that I would never buy. Talk about no style or class, thats the winner of that contest.

I always try to stay all GM but some other American brands do appeal to me, I wont lie. But GM is always the winner to me cars, trucks, anything.

I'm with you for the most part. GM is number one for me, and there is a lot of mopar cars/trucks I like. I do own a sebring and a ram. No Fords ever appealed to me, plus my Fx50 driving fans always rip on my GM stuff so more reason not to own one lol. And yeah, most jap cars bore the crap out of me, Americans know (or use to) know how to build a car for style.

It depends on the model for me. I hate most Toyota products, but it's mainly the cars and the seemingly careless people that tend to own their mundane sedans in the immediate Boston area that piss me off. Every car that's ever crashed into me was a Toyota. The only exception was a 'tard on a motorcycle. Yet, I like the original Lexus IS and their small trucks. The Tundra is ghey and looks hideous. Toyota owns Subaru, and I love Subarus and would still buy one.

I like a lot of German cars, but they seem to be a pain to maintain. If I had to choose, it'd be a 1980s E30 3-series.

I like GM trucks, F-bodies, and body on frame cars, but the S10 "Blazers" (Blazer to me should have always remained a full size vehicle, although I do like the ZR2), FWD unibody things don't do much for me unless it's an old 80s 3.1/3.8 Cutlass Ciera International edition or something like that. I want nothing to do with plastic intake problems, poorly designed brake calipers that freeze, and other known issues if I don't need to deal with them. And other brands have the same issues...

Ford...well a lot suck, but some of my favorite vehicles are Fords. I like Mustangs, I like any of the Panther platform cars, 80s Town Cars, and the like. And my favorite truck is probably the 80-86 Ford pickups and Broncos:

I just think they're the cleanest design of any truck ever made, the later ones were okay but were just an alteration of this, and it's like all newer trucks are cartoonishly trying to look macho but are in reality made for girly men. These trucks have the perfect seating position for you to drive with the window down and your arm on the sill, grabbing the bar that separates the butterfly window from the main door window.
I like Chevy's of the same era but I think these Fords had a very slight edge in styling. They also rotted bad and had a shitty front axle design though. And the engines, while not terrible, seem harder to work on. For that, I might drive a Blazer/Jimmy first even though they rot worse. I like the 78-79 Broncos too!

Matt I agree so much on your Ford ideas. I love those trucks and to be honest I like the 92-96 style also. They just look good and I have a few memories in them. That bronco with all the tapes and everything is great! Love it so much, all of the late seventies california truck style stuff. If I could get one (and more importantly had use for it) I would love a 92-96 7.3L diesel ford. But I would still take any 73-87 chevy/gmc any day over the ford.

My biggest concern here is that we ALL have the opportunity here to reward American manufacturers for the excellence that they produce by BUYING the home turf product, Ford, Chevy, Mopar, Etc.

The power to fight the trade deficit is largely in our hands.

If you reward japan, korea or ANY other nation's manufacturer's products with a purchase, then inevitably, their government's banks come for U.S.A.'s gold (the Nation's store of wealth) (Our gold - our grandfather's gold - our children's future.) Gold accumulated on the blood sweat and genius of generations of Americans.

I always try to remember to type America with capital "A", while the other nations are ALL lower case, not due to any disrespect to them, but from my own Simple National Pride.

Well at least its a step in the right direction.

There were many toyota 4x4s that got Buick V6 conversions back in the day.

It was a big improvement over the 22Rs & 22REs that were in them, with that stupid timing chain tensioner that so often failed.

I also hope that the 4skinner (I mean 4-runner) also had a full domestic axle, transmission and transfer case upgrade in it.

Like a narrowed dana 60 front, GM Full-Float 14 bolt rear (6 bolt pinion style), NP 205 transfer & NV 4500 manual transmission.

I checked out the link under the bronco, and found that the seller of that factory custom F250 is a hard core GM guy.

He has many Caddys, Vettes and all kinds of very nice cars. Including hi-res photos of his 96 black SS Impala.

What was under the hood of the truck was a 1970 4 bolt main, 4bbl, 460 (385 series) Ford big block, installed at the factory.

Check out the 1970 Chevy CST C-10 pick up truck, possibly the nicest in the world. That means you, NoMoa!

we seem to have gotten away from the first post was which how much he enjoyed the ride in a new mustang. For me the best ride ever was driving in my brothers 1970 chevelle ls6 4 speed. Nothing I've riden to date pulled like that bitch when he got on it!! The only other vehicle that came close was my rice rocket but here we go getting off topic again.

A list of the Fords that I've enjoyed. Wish I kept them all.

1969 Mach I : 427 side-oiler, medium riser heads, dollar sign crank, LeMans rods, dual quads, rev-man C6, spool 9"

1966 Gallaxie 500, 7 Litre, spl edition, factory three link rear with four coils springs. Smoothest riding car I have ever owned.

1968 Torino GT FE 427, C6, 9" Detroit locker. (black & gold)

1977 1 ton F350 Hi-Boy, dump, plow, 4x4, divorced 205, Dana 70 7500lbs, 4 pinion posi rear, Dana 60 5000lbs front axle, Manual hubs. 400M, (335 Series)

1994 Mustang notchback, silver, black interior, 5 speed, 2.3L, Cobra wheels, Daily Driver for gas milage, until I could not stand the terrible ride anymore.

The verdict? , , , Nothing rides like a well sorted out full chassis, full size domestic car.

Currently own 11 GM B-Bodies; 2 Bubbles, 8 Boxes & an 84 Olds 88 Royal Brougham LS. Oh, and one spare 95 9C1 complete chassis, (engine to tires). So 12 then.

Not including four GM A-Bodies, 1968-72. A 1990 GMC V-3500 & a Chevy 2002 K3500, both are 4x4 big block dually.

As far as staying on topic, I DO like all new American hot-rods, but after driving in the GT500, you should try a new Z51 or Z06 Corvette.

ZR1 is WAY too much money for a fair comparison.

An afterthought for this topic of discussion, the Corvette has a full chassis. Not so in the Mustang.

Yep, Matt Garrett's collection is insane, that's why I posted that truck and the link. If you get a chance, and like B-bodies, peruse his site, please. He has had some really odd, and really ridiculous cars. Like 92 Broughams that have never traveled distances under their own power with no miles on them. I love that F-250, really interesting history.

The first car rides I really remember vividly were in my grampas 85 c-10 and my nanas 89 caprice. But more often I remember riding in the other grandparents Grand Marquis and Crown Vic.

But the chevys really stuck, especially that caprice, it was a broughm and I got shotgun my first ride in it! SCORE! Been in love with the boxes ever since

And then my favorite FAST ride would have been either in the red caprice with the TPI motor, thought the box love may have played a part in that, or in the Kenworth W900L studio sleeper with my boss running through the gears and hitting the engine brake in the heart of Charlestown LOL.

All of 'em American and all of em I love. My friends Honda, we've had some stupid fun in...but I will never have a connection to a car like that.
