| I have a complete LT1 engine sitting in my garage. I have 2 relatively low miles cars. I will never need this engine (I hope). It has 153K.
$150
I'm almost giving it away. Too good of a deal to pass up.
Bring an engine lift and I'll buy lunch.

| Absolutely not!
But I know you would be starved if you drove all that way.
You may need that engine for the Impala. Think about it!

| Maybe you could hold it for a week or two in case Brad returns. Usually I try not to muck up for sale/wanted posts but I couldn't resist this time. Sorry. What year is the engine? | |

So would I. I was so pissed to hear it was the head gasket I went and test drove an '09 diesel. Thing freaking rocked. I came so close to saying f it and getting rid of mine.

Actually stay away from VW/Audi all together. They run nice out the door, but once they break, they brea big. http://www.tdi-issues.com/problems-tac69/nhtsa-examines-jetta-stalling-issues-gap350.htm I also have an inside sorce that has told me the problem is the fuel system contamination. And while VW has accused owners of causing the contamination, the true issue is moisture prematurly rusting the inner fuel lines, and there by sending rust particles up stream in the system. Why is VW so easy to blame it on owner error? Because it cost roughly $8500 per vehicle to replace the entire fuel system (tank to injectors) and that is not with updated parts, just replacements. I have run into this at least a half dozen times. Storys are all similar, and the results are similar as well |

They run nice out the door, but once they break, they brea big. http://www.tdi-issues.com/problems-tac69/nhtsa-examines-jetta-stalling-issues-gap350.htm The bulk of VW/Audi issues stem from their love in using turbochargers in a lot of their cars. Most people who buy them havent the first clue about maintaining them, hence the problems. Now that VW/Audi has started putting a natrually aspirated 2.5L in the bulk of their cars (save for the GTi, GLi) reliability is way up. Plus after this year all US bound VW's will be made in TN so no more piss poor Mexican assembled cars. As for that TDi issue, thats the first i've heard of it. I would imagine that it has something to do with the first gen of the "new" TDi's back from like '07. I've heard nothing but good things until now. Such as my buddy with a 2002 Golf TDI with "only" 250k on pretty much the original everything. Only thing he's done is scheduled maintenance. And frankly, I don't think I could stay away from VW/Audi. Minus the water pump and a cat which were under warranty this is the first money i've had to throw into the car. Everything else was regular maintenance. I still love it, its a blast to drive, and there isnt any small car that is American made that i'd want that can match this thing.

| You could buy a b-body with a bad engine, and tom's LT1 for probably less than you're going to pay for that head gasket.. just sayin | |

Yeah. I probably could. But, chances are a b-body like that is going to need more work/money than my wagon than I am prepared to spend on a daily driver. Then again, the bill for the whole job is "only" going to be like $750-900. I don't think any b-body in that price range will be daily driver material without work. In any event, this is Tom's thread. Enough of our hijacking

I have run into this at least a half dozen times. Storys are all similar, and the results are similar as well I only believe half of all that. Buddy of mine has several TDI jettas, never had an issue. As for the lines, i'd have to see that to believe it cost that much, if that was the case, they would be lined up at the crusher, cause NO ONE would put 9k into jetta.

This problem in only on the NEW TDI system for clean Diesel. Now back to the subject of the LT1 FOR $150.00. |

| I kind of wish I was closer and had the space, I'd probably just find an engine stand and take it...I'm not sure I want to put an LT1 in the '74, but it's intriguing. Someone probably needs it more than me though. | |
