PostSubject: Poly bushings?   Poly bushings? EmptyTue Nov 09, 2010 3:42 pm

Anyone run (or ever run) poly front control arm bushings?
I have a set that I'll probably never use except now in Matts project car
Yes....or.......No
Doesnt seem like the stockers have enough rubber to change the ride quality any.
I have new rubber coming with the shafts I needed so I DO have a choice

Not alot of info there. Lots of guessing but no real experiences.
Nobody here has ever run them or been in a car running them?

Thanks Glenn, that was the body mount thread, I'll experiment with that as I put the softer ES poly in there
(I refused to use the 9C1 bushings I have, those I'm saving for the 96)

Thanks Bobby, yes, I dis-assembled the bushing & put ES sticky nasty silicon like stuff all over them & put them back together

Hey, what the hell, I'll try it & see how it works out on this car. If its a FAIL, we'll turn it into a full time wintewr beater tongue

the polys make it easier to install the upper shaft because they just slide right into the shells after you press the shells into
the control arms

Ummm....DOH.....never thought of that. Shells 1st huh?
That may have been easier, but SLIDE?
these MFers werent sliding into or onto anything they were tight.
Had to press the shaft thru the inner sleeve (with my method)
When I do the 2nd arm, I might have to think thru THAT method.

the way you're doing it you need to support the inside of the control arm so they don't bend the control arm ears in ....

yes slide Shocked their supposed to spin in the shells when done Arrow

Yes, I supported them etc., & they did rotate when I was done, but slide is another story.
I'll see what happens when I do the next arm
That pic was just pressing the shaft into the inner sleeve. It really was TIGHT.
Thanks for the advise

Well Bobby, I did the 2nd side like you suggested
Holy Slippity do da, they were on in 5 minutes & that was with a smoke in between.
Yes...SLIDE was correct.

Seems one side of the 1st AArm was slightly squashed during the old bushing removal.
They were just off enough that the shaft wasnt straight thru the centerline of the bushing
I just bought them like that.
Dimensionally it was reasonable, but thats why it fought me.

Hell NO. It wont get any better.
It still rotates freely & I'm betting it will be fine.
