Performance muffler? Empty
PostSubject: Performance muffler?   Performance muffler? EmptyWed Feb 11, 2009 10:52 pm

Has anyone put a new muffler on just to make it sound a little better? i was thinking of doing this to my big old 84. i was thinking a cherry bomb glass pack (enough noise to prove its got power, but not enough to draw cops like a camaro in webster). anyone wana put their 2 cents in?

Once a glass pack gets some miles on it it will just become an echo chamber in essence making the exhaust louder. I have a Flowmaster imitation muffler on my wagon. There is no material to burn out so the sound doesn't change over time. Any muffler that says fully welded has no internal material instead it uses different angled baffles to reduce the sound and noise level. Here is a short video of my wagon to get an idea of what it sounds like. It is not as loud as it sounds on the video and it is not annoying inside the car.

I put spintech pro street mufflers on my 94 9c1 in place of the stock ones, it sounds great and I have not been pulled over, I left the resonators in place though,

It all depends on what you want. Exhaust is a totally subjective mod! What one guy likes, another will think is horrible... You just need to hear a few different exhausts and pick what you like.

Personally, I like it loud, but not drone-y. I like the old SLP exhaust that used to be available for the B cars. I very much dislike the Flowmaster system. Hate the Borla. Like the Dynomax and Hooker exhaust for our cars. But I LOVE the 3" exhaust with Summit Turbos and dumps on my SS. I love the Summit turbos in the stock pipes with resonators deleted and ridiculous truck tips on Morticia. I loved my 2.5" exhaust with Dynomax Bullet mufflers and turndowns on my Caddy. I HATED that sae exhaust with tailpipes on it though (that I HAD to add to pass inspection Evil or Very Mad ). I also loved the 2.5" exhaust with no mufflers in the stock location and Summit glass packs in place of the resonators that I ran on my SS. It was LOUD and OBNOXIOUS and I got lots of positive comments on it. I also got thrown out of NHIS in Loudon not ONCE, but TWICE because of it! Wink So I added a pair of Flowmasters in the stock location so I could race it and NOT get kicked out and absolutely hated it. That's the exhaust Bill just bought yesterday. He'll love it.

So like I said... Exhaust is VERY subjective. Come to one of the meets, or better yet to the track, and take a listen to each car and decide BEFORE you spend your money and end up not liking what you got...
