95 FWB wipers won't shut off until key is turned off/on again

So after owning this thing for 2+ years now, I had an occasion to use my wipers for the first time a couple weeks ago. And to my disappointment they would not shut off until I turned the ignition off and back on again, then the wipers would park.

The FSM only lists one cure for that- replace the switch. Although I don't think the FSM has ever let me down, my gut tells me (or maybe it's really wishful thinking) that if the switch was bad, they would NEVER shut off. Plus IIRC the FSM lists the symtom only as "wipers will not shut off", and that is not entirely my case. They will shut off, I just have to turn the key off then on again. The fact that they will park and shut off after turning the key off and then on again makes me think it may be another issue.

What do you guys think?

My '96 Caprice developed that after sitting for a while. Was going to change my switch.

I had a problem with one car where the wipers sometimes would not turn off. I replaced the control board on the wiper motor and all was well. For some wiper motors you can buy just the board but not for the sedans. I took the board off a parts car. You might pull the board and inspect.

We have a winner! Thank for the replies. I don't think I would have thought to replace just the circuit board if not for Boojum's commment. I went over to my RMW, now rusting in peace, and at first tried to just take the whole motor out. When I realized that was going to be a PITA, and that the circuit board was in the cover that would take 30 seconds to remove, I tried that. That worked. Nothing like fixing something in a few minutes for free.
