| I met this gentleman yesterday after a craigslist follow-up. He may show up as a forum member but he drives a 2005 corvette blue with the white stripes. HE DOES NOT WANT THIS CAR PARTED OUT. HE WANTS IT TO GO TO AN ENTHUISIAST WHO WILL DRIVE AND TAKE CARE OF IT!!! He is selling his 156k mile, second owner, '96 B4U package caprice. It does have an LT1 with a mechanical fan. Opti spark and water pump have ZERO miles on them. tranny has about 20k miles, A/C system replaced and service at a dealership. New radiator 2 years ago. True dual flowmaster exhaust. The suspension is real tight, doesnt bounce. The car has been sitting for about a year and a simple battery charge, it started right up. He runs only synthetic oil. Posi rear w/ 2.93's. There is a small set of dings on the hood from a tree branch. 91/92 grill and LTZ emblem due to the original being yanked off the car. The car had a "stumble" to it. The Caprice was towed from the dealership after the opti was installed because the tech said it needed a head gasket. They told him they were findind trace gases in the coolant. I let the car run, it didnt stumble, but I did watch for bubbles in the reservoir. Nothing, but I only looked at it for about an hour. Ran the scanner on the DLC, no codes. good tires, The wheels are still in MINT condition from when he bought it and took them off and ran N97's. Power everything, auto dimmer rearview. antenna doesnt go up or down anymore tho. original GM CD player and upgraded aftermarket peakers forward and back. $2,500 Heres the pics... Heres some crap cell phone pics... I should have some more pictures and info coming soon. And get this. In the garage, his father has an all original, matching options white w/ red interior '96 with 40k miles. Showroom condition!

| Hello, I'm the owner of the caprice for sale. Thanks Brian for creating the post and pictures. Below is my Craigslist ad:
I'm selling my 1996 chevy caprice with B4U sport package. This package is similar to the police package. Car has LT1, FE3 sports suspension, Bistein sport shocks (linear, not progressive), performance aluminum driveshaft with GM heavy duty yoke at rear (with double seal), limited slip differential, flowmaster force III true dual exhaust system. Car has approx 156k (mostly highway) on it but is in very good condition. Some rust underneath but body is very good. It had started to run rough on me so I had my dealer install a new OEM opti-spark distributor and water pump (which cost me over $1k) but that did not resolve issue. After further testing, the dealer tells me it has a bad head gasket. I debated throwing a new long block in it but decided to just by a new Hyundai instead. Car has every option available, leather seats, all power, etc. I put a new GM factory transmission with torque converter in the car about 3 years ago and it probably only has 20k miles on it. I had the dealer fix the A/C 2 years ago and that was $1k. Radiator is a couple of years old. Thermostatic clutch for fan has been replaced (original one had vibration) and front engine damper has been replaced too. Car is medium adriatic blue and pic below is of actual car. I did remove the powder coated black wheels though and gave them to my father and I put back on the factory alloys. I bought with 70k on it from original elderly owner back in 2003. The car also has aftermarket speakers installed from crutchfield and also has an LT4 knock module. New Rear heavy duty drums and shoes are maybe 20k old (original shoes lasted almost 140k miles. I only used synthetic 0w40 mobil 1 or penzoil platinum with snythetic AC delco ultra guard filters (highly recommended on the BITOG forum) the entire time I've owned the car. Most miles are highway up to my house in Bethlehem NH from Rhode Island on weekends. Full size spare with aluminum wheel in trunk. Back seat has maybe been sat in 5 times... all leather in great shape. Exhaust manifolds are about 3 years old and so are all four 02 sensors. Wires and plugs were replaced at same time. Once you replace head gasket, etc, this car should be 100% ready for another 100k miles.
thanks for your interest and please let me know if there are any questions. Car is located in Mansfield, MA. I'm a huge fan of these cars but I have too many cars at it is and will eventually be getting my father's mint '96 also so I need to let this car go. Our family has had a '76, '85, '86, '87, and '91 besides these two '96s. My favorite was my '87 w/9C1 that I bought off the Maine state police... I'd buy another one of those in a heart beat if I could! All the others had only the 305s with F41 suspensions (best we could buy new as civilians at the time) but I still loved them all. We drove them all to around 300k and never had any drivetrain issues. People we sold them to would always come back with another 100K+ on them and we'd all just laugh!! they ran forever!!! Anyways, thanks... It looks like you have a nice forum here and I'm glad to see others with a similar interest! thanks Craig Swanson caswanson2002@hotmail.com

| Well I just received a phone call from my father. A huge pine tree just blew over that was in the neighbors yard and it crushed the caprice. I'm told the roof is now level with the trunk. Any ideas on a scrap yard that I could sell the car to? thanks | |

| I don't think I'll go after my neighbor for the insurance money. If it was worth more, I would. Please let me know if anyone wants to buy the car as is. I don't want to part it out and I want to get it out of the yard within the next 3 or 4 weeks. Send me an offer if you're interested. If no offers, its going to the scrap yard after I pull off a few items. thanks | |

Doug What he said, You could get book value for that nice car. What a sin! Either way a ton of people on here could use parts from it. Any pics of the damage to get an idea of the extent?

| If this gets parted out on here, I'd be interested in the cover for the trunk lock cylinder if the bowtie isn't flopping around, etc.

Looking at the pics, it's still worth more than scrap price, IMHO.

Nope, contrary to popular belief folks, Not I. I was offering the seats, I already have. I dont think that he will part it out. He has NO time for that. He wants to sell the whole thing. Give him a call from the c/l post. Thats how I met him.

| yeah, I won't be parting it out... just don't have the time. Most likely I'll pull the driveshaft off soon and scrap it unless someone offers me some $$ soon for the whole car and they can come get it. I'm sure the seats and other stuff is junk now that there is no roof on the car... everything is soaked. If you're interested in taking the whole car, please email me directly at caswanson2002@hotmail.com with $$ offer. thanks | |
