Inspection TIme Empty
PostSubject: Inspection TIme   Inspection TIme EmptyFri Nov 06, 2009 8:38 pm

OK so they rejected the Boat/Wagon with my wife driving saying both upper BJ were toast. They are just barely worn, but what the hell I will get 2, I haven't replaced those on this car yet, (almost 3 yrs). What shocked me was finding what looks like original rivited BJs. The worst part was the cotter pin was so far in the castle nut, and there was so much crap caked around the cotter pin and rivits/bolts I put the wheel back on. I didn't have the time to fight with them....that will be Sat morning.
***UPDATE***** After using a small hammer to wedge a small hook between the castle nut and the cotter pin I was just about to pry it out enough to grab it...just before the hook broke. Ah well replacing a hook pic is still cheaper then a mechanics labor. ANd I was right these are original rivited balljoints with 180,000 miles on them I am shocked. Shocked

Problem #2 no third brake light. My light uses the #577 bulb, and no one has it. I tried another similar bulb to no avail. I am in fact starting to doubt/wonder if the bulbs are getting power. That will be another job for tomorrow.
*****UPDATE*****Lights light up when clipped to 12v, and I am getting 12v at the pins on the wagon door, the problem is the bent piece that bolts to the window. Chevy has D/C'd it. I am off to a junk yard in hopes of finding one..yeah right. Ok I was right junkyard came up empty. So then inspiration hit. I took the plate off that bridges the door to the light, sanded down/cleaned the connections and tried building them up again with some melted solder. I also took 2 red female spade connectors and cut off the crimp. Slid that over the 2 tabs on the light and pinched them down. With both fixes my high mount brake light works. I will try to remember to take a few pics and post them.

Issue/Question #3 My wagon has an electric & mechanical fan. The mechanical has to go, and that really isn't a problem, but I was thinking since the mechanical fan spun 24/7 when engine is on, why not have the new second fan run off a hot engine on feed. Does anyone forsee an issue with that? Other then the possibility of burning the fan out a tad quicker.

Issue #4 The support structure behind my headlights are cracked and broken, long before I got it. They have been Mickey Moused, but I would like to get new supports and bolt them in. The problem is I can't find them online. Could anyone point me in the right direction for them?

I believe I have at least one extra, if not both. I will check tomorrow.

Welcome aboard! Take that mech fan & bracket off, unless of course you live in Texas. I believe there is a thread that can help with the dual fan conversion.
