OK , so I have the 4L60E tranny in my caprice. All I really want to do for the moment is put a set of 3.73s in it and possibly a shift kit. Will the tranny hold up to a (LITTLE) abuse? What tranny came in the stock IMP SS? Should I be looking for one of those. The car only has 56k on it and has never been beaten. Advice anyone????? What a Face

LT1 Caprice and Impala had the exact same drivetrain.

They both used identical 4L60E's. A set of 3.73's isn't gonna hurt your trans - and a shift kit can actually help it.

Yes, the Transgo HD-2 shift kit is the shift kit you want as if fixes a few factory flaws. I love it. And firming up you shifts is a good way to prolong the life of that transmission. The stock trany will take a fair amount of abuse , but the 4L60E is prone to faiure. But don't let that scare you.

Even a tune will firm your shift points and change them.

Shift kits are so easy, even a Garden gnome like me can do them.

Stop by some time Rob, I will take you for a ride in my car so you can feel almost exactly how your car will feel with just a shift kit.

And BTW, here is the link to the jegs exhaust. Just under $280 to your door.

The 4l60e is good for anywhere from no power to lots of power depending on your luck in life. A well built one can handle power levels ranging from less than stock to a fair bit. A used junkyard one will handle roughly the same power levels. Basically if you can only afford to do the swap once and it has to be perfect than expect it to blow up pretty quick. If you have plenty of money/time to deal with multiple swaps it'll never break. To me it's the only bad thing about the Impala.

I think Fisher has a tuned PCM. Should I get that one from him? Is it what I need?
