As seen on ISSF.
We used to run used tires all the time on our play toys, and i have 10 sets on all those junk caprices, guess i'll take the good ones and put them inside armorall the crap outta them and burn them off.
I wonder though, if that was an isolated incident, ive never seen a tire tread on a pass car come apart like that, just truck tires.

Just clean them up and put them inside, stacked up with cardboard in between, petroleum distillates actually break down the tires instead of saving them. We learned that the hard way a long time ago. There IS probably some nice tire dressing you can use, but I'd search a detailing website first and see what other people say. I remember seeing a similar story like this a year or so ago. I've gotten used tires before and had no problems but this is a wake up call. It seems some companies like Michelin/BFG use "purer" rubber than other makes so if you don't usually see dry rot on the tires on other cars, it's a safe bet used ones will be okay. I'm a big BFG fan and have never seen one get dry rotted before, I've even seen 15 year old BFG A/Ts that still said "Radial All Terrain T/A" with the white letters bleeding out that weren't cracked at all. Still not a guarantee for their safety but it says something. EDIT: Just looked at the date on the vid, this is the same story I saw!

| I get used tires all the time. I insist on picking them out myself and check the entire surface, sidewall, and inside for any signs of patches or cracking. I even check them to see if the tread is cupped or flat spotted or anything. Then I run them for a few years and get another set because by then they actually are worn funny and cracking | |
