ECT wiring? Empty
PostSubject: ECT wiring?   ECT wiring? EmptyWed Jun 01, 2016 8:09 pm

I'm curious if anyone here has had to replace the connector/pigtail to the ECT on the WP. That last several days I've had several bizarre circumstances with the 9C1 which led me to the ECT and it's harness by doing a wiggle test. The fans come on without a set DTC/CEL but sometimes I get a P0118 ECT circuit high output. The freeze frame data shows -40* from the ECT. But this is a brand new one (2 weeks ago) and wiggling that connector makes the car stumble/stall almost and turns the fans on.

I'm also wondering if anyone here has done the 3 wire "upgrade." 3 wire ECT and connector/pigtail? 2 wires for the ECT power and signal and a third wire to run to the factory gauge instead of using the sender on the passenger head. Thinking about doing this while I'm there. Would be nice to see exactly what temps the PCM is seeing. Or are they 2 different sensors for say, voltage/signal reasons? Meaning, the 2 wire at the pump has a different voltage than the 1 wire on the head.

TIA

Just seeing this now
Yes the connector is like any other & subject to fail
There IS a 3 wire sensor & plug that replaces the head sensor
I think I have it in my toolbox for when I actually believed I'd do the mod
I'll try to remember to check it out

Thank you. I ended up ordering a new connector and pigtail a few weeks ago and that solved the craziness I had going on. Now my trans slips in overdrive or there's a lock up issue between 35-45 mph :/

Fix one thing, something else happens.
