PostSubject: New Masshole here, hiya   Sat Apr 25, 2015 6:55 pm

I am a member of a Facebook Caprice page and a guy there suggested I join here being from MA.

A tidbit about me. Love cars trucks and bikes. It goes fast and makes a lot of noise it's me. Built a few vehicles and by no means know it all but I do the best I can, research, watch videos and call friends for things I'm not to sure on. Most of my builds were oldschool stuff. Barely any wires etc etc.

Always wanted a bubblebody Caprice. Just think it has that perfect sleeper look. Ended up buying around a month ago a 1996 4 door with a 2003 LT1 vortec in it. Got it cheap and it needs a decent chunk of work to be up to proper sleeper standards. It runs and sounds good but needs that refresh/rebuild before I start putting more horsepower into it. Either going to procharge the vortec or build my 400 smallblock and drop that in, future plans type of stuff. for now getting her proper is all I'm going for now.

Glad to be a member of a car club again. It's been quite a few years and looking forward to getting to know everyone here and eventually at meets.

I'll post a few pics in the pics section of my sexy ugly sleepr girl.

Welcome aboard!

Did someone say 400 SBC?

Caprice looks like a nice project, you'll like it.

Had 2 400's. a 4bolt main and 2bolt main. the 4 bolt had a typical crack in the web. got the crank though still if anyone here wants to turn and burn a 350 into a stroker 383.

I saw that car for sale on craigslist. The swap looked very rushed and ametur. It's not a 2003 LT1 though. It's an LM7 5.3L and I would use that over an old school 400. At the least, clean up the swap from the previous owner. WELCOME!!!!!!11111

Yea it was rushed swap. I cant complain for the price I paid but I do plan on taking the motor out over the winter and going right thru it as well as the transmission. I haven't checked the engine block numbers yet but as far as the motor you say it is, is it worth building? Ideally I'm shooting for 500-600hp to the wheels when all is said and done. for now though just gonna bring it up to 100% clean and proper.

Been tinkering a bit. Wired up a toggle activated fan switch with a inline. Just for the summer so I can maybe (more info on maybe) drive it. Works fine, no overheating, hot wires or hot motor.
Has a knock that sounds like it from around the flywheel. Looked at it and don't see any cracks but a bolt is missing. Going to pull the tranny to have a better look. If it is in the oilpan going to need to pull the motor up about 3 inches to drop the oilpan, pain in the ass but the pan is a 1/2" away from the undersupport, no way around it really. Possible I pushed a old piece of a dipstick thru.
Been lightly cleaning up the wiring. Other than the unused wires on the plugs themselves it seams like a lot of the wiring is grounds, run off grounds, combined with other grounds etc. Same for positive wires. Once I weed out the useless/dead wires I don't think it will be to bad rewiring it. Save myself some cash. Winter work there being a decent chunk of work involved.

Did my first fiberglass job and not bad from what I can see, I hope hah. One side might need a few spots filled. then I'll mud it up and smooth it.

Uglified her up a bit more to. Grill will be the brandywine and black.

That motor is worth building up. You can easily reach 500+ hp without touching the rotating assembly.

I been reading up alot on it and it seams like a nice motor with tons of potential. Seams like a nice motor.
